because we were at the hospital with 14 month old dd till 2am and i didnt get to sleep till 4.30am and dd woke up alot coughing until she got up at 9am

just been told by a friend that i should have taken ds to school and had a nap when dd naps or let him lie in and take him a bit late instead of keeping him off for the day ...

(she wouldnt stop coughing btw and honking as she breathed in)

oh and i am 27 weeks pregnant as well

naa, you did the right thing. Poor thing would have fallen asleep at his desk.
No, you should have a quiet day on the sofa, watching DVDs.

tell friend to feck off

lolapoppins · 17/05/2010 14:25

He was up until 4.30? He must have been exhausted, poor boy would have been nodding off in class.

biddysmama · 17/05/2010 14:26

sorry, i was up till 4.30, he was up till 2.30ish when we got home

Poor you! It's alright for your "friend" to dictate what you should have done when she hasn't endured what you did last night!

One day off school won't do him any harm, and I hope you manage to catch up on your sleep soon.
And I hope your dd gets well soon.

Was ds at the hospital with you? If not then yes I would have taken him to school, you might actually have gotten more rest today yourself if you had. Hope your DD is ok though, look after yourself as well, you must be knackered.

AgentZigzag · 17/05/2010 14:29

YADNBU, one day wont harm. Get off MN and get yourselves to bed

Hope your DD feels better soon.

biddysmama · 17/05/2010 14:34

I hope you manage some sleep tonight, good luck.

Ripeberry · 17/05/2010 14:37

Take the day off, my neighbour has a day off if the car breaks down and she can't get her son to school. Even though it's only 1 mile away

elmofan · 17/05/2010 14:42

YADNBU - he would be too tired for school today anyway imo , hope your lo is feeling better soon .

MrsHarkness · 17/05/2010 15:35

YANBU the poor wee soul would have been shattered and fallen asleep at his desk, you did the right thing

Lotkinsgonecurly · 17/05/2010 15:39

ds never gets anything, swear he could swallow all his food raw and not have a reaction lol

poor baby coughs for half an hour every night before she can fall asleep properly, dr gave her an inhalor last time we took her in but doesnt seem to make a difference

thumbwitch · 17/05/2010 16:01

YADNBU.

Apart from anything else, he might have caught the cough so he would be spreading cough germs among his peers.

Tell friend to mind her own and piss off.

ok, just realised that my attempt at irony is too obscure - ignore the middle line of my last post as it is just silly.

lazarusb · 17/05/2010 16:02

YANBU- get a take away tonight too. He would have had an awful day. Well done for putting his needs first.

biddysmama · 17/05/2010 16:03

yeah, its blue, i have asthma and he said it could be asthma but shes too small for her to be diagnosed and she may grow out of it... she has a spacer as well and she has to use it 4 times a day, its been about a month now since she got it and still has this horrible cogh

YADNBU

i would have done the same therefore, YADNBU!

itsatiggerday · 17/05/2010 16:27

Agree re your ds off school.

For what it's worth, our ds had terrible croup for about 3 months and we ended up in A&E till the small hours one night like you. They were concerned re his breathing as it was so laboured and he had slight fever etc but because he wasn't seemingly distressed by the strain of breathing they gave us the option to go home and said to bring him back if we got more worried. Inhalers did nothing for him either - salbutamol or another one I can't remember. But they did give him a steroid - dexy-something - which apparently relaxes the muscles and eases the breathing and our GP had also given him a dose the couple of days earlier, that did seem to make a difference so if it gets worse, it may be worth asking. Really hope your dd gets better soon and you don't have any more scary nights.
