to think this is theft

I recently went for a private hospital consultation at a bupa clinic.

I then got a bill from the consultant - the letter came stamped (as in postage paid)by the NHS hospital he also works for.

It would seem he is doing private work put letting nhs pay his private postage costs. Surely that is theft. I know it is only a small amount but the principle is wrong, same as mps expenses- greed people that have a lot taking more. I want to report him to the trust but dh thinks i should let it lie and says he could pay for the postage himself. I cant see it if it has nhs mark on.

YAprobablyBU
In all likelihood the consultant or his secretary will record his usage of the NHS postal system and will be charged back.

We have a franking machine at work. I put most of my private mail through it and I am charged back - cheaper that way as a franker gives you a discount on the usual postage costs.
