the childminder just called me at work to tell me that DS just asked for the potty and did a poo? This is the first time ever and he's not even 2yo yet?

Also, should I shut the hell up and not count my chickens?? I know it can be a long road to toilet training... but this is amazingly early, right??

Also, how sad am I that this is what makes me happy??

YANBU. It's an amazing milestone.

Think you are right to remember that there will probably be ups and downs along the road but it's a great start.

Fantastic - keep up with it now he has shown interest!! How wonderful that he asked too! And lovely of CM to call you - everyone is excited cause it's a big deal for your DS!

FWIW DD did something similar and was very keen to use potty pre 2 & then one day refused anything to do with it for another few months. But we got there in the end.

YANBU to be well chuffed!

gobsmackedetal · 13/05/2010 11:29

YANBU, well done to your little one. You remind me of myself, dd was out of nappies in the daytime at 17 months, I was so happy and proud!! 3months later DS arrived and it all went downhill from there

be proud though, the things that rock a parent's world may seem sad to others and to your previous self, but truth is that it is a big change for both you and your little man. Well done again

StealthPolarBear · 13/05/2010 11:29

wow Well done your DS
My DS is just over 3 and I'm still working on it

BallpointPen · 13/05/2010 11:32

YANBU. It's a good day when they 'get' what it's all about.

palacemonkey · 13/05/2010 11:35

The CM is a friend from my Antenatal class and her DS is only 3 days older then mine - so she is well aware how exciting this is. I thought she was calling to say that DS had come up in Chicken Pox - her DS is currently covered in them!

Its very good, but I wouldn't say its "amazingly early". It bodes well for a relatively smooth transition to being potty trained in the next few months if not sooner.

Some kids get it earlier than others. My son was one of those ones who did it very quickly and on his own accord by the age of two. Everyone said how "early" it was mainly because he was a boy but ask a generation or two ago and they would wonder why so late.

I think its fair to say, however, that any child that is clean and dry during the day by the age of 2 is doing very well, boy or girl.

Firawla · 13/05/2010 13:08

wow, i would be proud too that seems young to me, mine is same age coming up to 2 but i have not even really thought of potty yet

palacemonkey · 13/05/2010 14:37

It has taken me this long to realise...

absurdly d'oh!
