to say "aaaw, Mum, don't kiss me goodbye, the other kids will see"

he was going into his Judo class

Greenie - deep breathing! Yes - far too young...

Don't be alarmed though , it comes and goes. DS1 kisses me in public again now. Give it ten years and he will come around.

I could lend you DS2. He is a determined snogger

Greensleeves · 28/04/2010 18:16

luckily ds1 is totally unabashed and still happy at 7.7 to hold my hand and leap at me spreadeagled for a cuddle

ds2 is more worldly and obsessed with being cool

My 12 yo DS2 holds my hand when no one is about but no way would he have kissed me good bye in public even at 3!

NotQuiteCockney · 28/04/2010 19:21

Oh, Greeny, I'm afraid my DS1 started refusing public kisses at 5. And DS2 copied him, so refused public kisses at 3.

They do still both like kisses, but not in public.

There are a few girls at their school who give me kisses, instead, to make up for it.

angel886 · 30/04/2010 02:34

Maybe an older kid has said something? Does he give you kisses other places where you leave him??
He still loves you more than anyone else...

StableButDeluded · 30/04/2010 02:47

Yes, too young!

Dreading the day my Ds (4.5) says this to me. He's very kissy-huggy, likes me to hold his hand going into nursery etc, and I can't imagine him saying 'don't kiss me'

I know it will come one day...

mollybob · 30/04/2010 08:38

same story here with both ds and dd about the time they started school

we have a special Mummy hand hold where we squeeze hands 3 times meaning "I love you" that is instead of a kiss and DS at 12 still does that which has softened the blow (a little)

sleepingsowell · 30/04/2010 09:26

aww molly that's a nice idea Will steal this with DS when the time comes

Maybe you could try that greensleeves, once you have stopped rocking, that is

lilmissmummy · 30/04/2010 09:30

DD (5) doesnt kiss me in public. This morning when I dropped her off at school she didnt even say goodbye but I would rather that then for her to scream because she doesnt want to leave me!

Mollybob - I do that with my dh

ShinyAndNew · 30/04/2010 09:32

Now see his is why you all should have girls. Dd1 runs back out of the cloakroom and down the playground, fastly followed by several teaching assistants if she forgets to give me a kiss before school.

I wait five mins now to make sure she is not going to come running back out for a kiss or a hug

Trafficcone · 30/04/2010 09:33

Oh no!! That is young . My 9 yr old now offers me his cheek rather than wraps himself around me and smothers me with kisses like he did last year and
that's sad enough.

mumwifemaggie · 30/04/2010 09:51

My 9 yo DD went for 2 years with only cuddles but she's started kissing again! My 5 yo DS only gives me his cheek now.

I'm sure it'll all change again soon.
