special clothes for school events

AIBU to think that one day's notice - from the school(this evening) to produce a "smart black skirt and smart white top with sleeves, black tights and smart shoes" for dd to be in a school concert (on thursday) is a bit inadequate when I work full time?

Dd was given the letter today, and had not been told about the dress requirements in advance. She is very sensible and I believe her.

Get thee to 24 hour Tesco then. I would be very annoyed though at such short notice.

mumto2andnomore · 13/04/2010 18:22

Yes it is short notice but if you knew she was in a concert what did you think she was going to wear? Think I would have rang to ask before now really.

Smithagain · 13/04/2010 18:24

Totally unreasonable ... and I'd have assumed they'd be in school uniform unless anything else had been said.

localmum · 13/04/2010 18:26

She thought it would be school uniform as has been the case for every other event she has been in since starting this school. Never occurred to either of us that this would be different.

I am searching on line for suitable clothes before heading out to shops. Nearest 24 hour tesco is about an hour away.

The school is being totally unreasonable unless that is already school uniform. I would complain about the short notice.

princessparty · 13/04/2010 19:02

THey are being unreasonable.Just send her in teh closest thing she has,I would imagine that is what most parents will do.

fallon8 · 13/04/2010 19:04

I used to borrow from frends or as someoen else said, tescoes/asda, adn buy something use can use afterwards.

Pozzled · 13/04/2010 20:56

School are being totally unreasonable. I wouldn't bother going to any effort, send her in either school uniform or a simple skirt and top.

localmum · 14/04/2010 17:32

She and her friend are the only yr 7s in the orchestra. Never happened before. I suppose the teacher just forgot. Everyone else will be suitably dressed.

Trailed all the way to tescos last night - only things available were way too big.

Went to Asda today - had to leave work early- only one pair of black trousers and one skirt. Am buying for other child whose mum doesn't have a car. Am fed up.

I leave for work at 7am, and I am really too tired for any more, but trousers don't fit.....Have only just got home....sigh....
