YABU. It's your fault not facebook's.

Any site like that is prone to spreading trojans etc.

cornsilk · 30/03/2010 13:55

you are a very naughty girl

Oblomov · 30/03/2010 13:56

cornsilk, what, like Brian, not the messiah, just a very naughty girl ?

OP posts:
cornsilk · 30/03/2010 13:57

yes like that

LittleMrsHappy · 30/03/2010 13:58

well its not facebooks fault, it is your and your companies fault for not securing your computer with virus protection and wotnot.

Oblomov · 30/03/2010 14:03

of course they have virus protection.we are part of a huge group.

justallovertheplace · 30/03/2010 14:04

I opened this wondering how on earth facebook had given you a condom
As you were

cornsilk · 30/03/2010 14:07

That's wot trojans do isn't it - get past the protection? The opposite to the condom version.

LittleMrsHappy · 30/03/2010 14:08

well they didn't this time, if you had adequate protection, you would have been flagged by a warning message beforehand or it would have been quarantined.

But its a lesson learnt I suppose on both parts.

CoteDAzur · 30/03/2010 14:10

How can you possibly get a Trojan from Facebook?

You must have clicked on something - an ad, a third party program?

CoteDAzur · 30/03/2010 14:11

Doesn't your company have virus protection at all? Very strange.

ToccataAndFudge · 30/03/2010 14:11

agree Cote - I'm on FB all day everyday, never had a virus of any description from it.

cornsilk · 30/03/2010 14:21

were you on something dodgy oblomov? Tell us we won't grass you up.

Oblomov · 30/03/2010 14:21

cote, they do. loads. i did not click on anything, as far as i know. but i must have done something wrong.

iamreallysilly · 30/03/2010 14:24

Have heard some of the apps on FB are trojans, eg the 'who's stalking ur profile' type ones so wd beware accepting anything like that

CoteDAzur · 30/03/2010 14:25

HOW, though? Things don't just start to download into your computer. And if they did, your virus protection should have alerted you a la "Do you really want to download xxxx.exe?"

JackRabbitBauer · 30/03/2010 14:34

Are you sure it was FB? I haven't heard of a FB virus.
Could it just be your IT dept pulling a 'we don't know how this got through but lets blame oblomov?'

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 30/03/2010 14:34

My virus protection quarantined a trojan from Facebook a few weeks ago.
Something to do with a who's stalking you app that my daughter added.
If your company let you do it, then they must be prepared to clean up after it.

CoteDAzur · 30/03/2010 15:38

That is what I mean, fiveis. If Oblomov didn't click on an ad or a third party app like "who's looking at your profile page" stuff, HOW could any Trojan have downloaded into her computer? And without virus protection flagging an alarm?

To me, as well, it sounds like your IT department making an excuse to blame Oblomov.

ooojimaflip · 30/03/2010 15:51

It's not Facebook itself but apps that redirect you to sites outside facebook, thought they may look like they are.

No app can tell you who is looking at your profile.

ooojimaflip · 30/03/2010 15:53

CoteDAzur - It IS to an extent Oblomov's fault as she probably did click on something - but it's getting harder and harder to filter out the crap.

CoteDAzur · 31/03/2010 19:35

She said she didn't click on anything, though.

frasersmummy · 31/03/2010 19:43

I work in IT and I have seen people get Trojans purely from being on face book

Like you op the people who get them think oh no I have to admit to being on facebook....

but so long as your policy says you can be on the web for personal use at lunch and breaks and they dont block social networking sites .. then dont worry its going to happen

I work for a large multi national and we still have people getting viruses. adware, spyware and trojans

You can do so much to block them but these things are always evolving

Rhian82 · 31/03/2010 19:52

But the definition of a Trojan is something you choose to download believing it to be safe (a la Trojan horse).

If you didn't download something, it might be malware but it's not a Trojan.

ToccataAndFudge · 31/03/2010 19:59

what god knows what's going on with their computer frasermuumy as I have a tab open with facebook every hour I'm awake and have done for the best part of a year or more..........and I'm yet to get any virus from purely being on there.
