Little feckers. we had a few last year that I put paid to pretty quickly with insecticide, but they're back this year and there's more of them.

Problem is, my flat has open floorboards and I think they're coming from under the floor (shop below put in loft insulation year before last and Ithink they're breeding in it [boak]). Plus we have a brickwork fireplace and it's one of those flats that has nooks and crannies everywhere. Every time I look around I see a knot on the wood out of the corner of my eye and think I can see one of the little critters. I'm fast becoming a crazed maniac. Please tell me I'm not alone. I know they're harmless to humans, but, ewwwwww all the same.

Definitely sympathise! We had some last year and the council said we had the rarer black ones. Is that what you have? If so they have quite a long life cycle so take a while to get rid of.

The council was really helpful with advice and suggested we check gutters for old birds' nests as that tends to be where the infestation comes from. It turned out we had a massive jackdaw nest in the chimney. Could that be where yours are coming from? Since having the chimney swept (and the dead bird removed - yuck!) we haven't had any problems.

Good luck!
