AIBU to think that it puts a lot of pressure on people and that if it isn't ''right'' for mum it causes a lot of hurt feelings?

Same for Valentines day.

I work in ajewellers and before each said day men came panic buying for gifts- it was quite sweet actually but woe betide those men who forget!
It did make me feel sad that dds dad wasn't around to buy me gifts.seeing all the doting dads/husbands made me realise what I was missing.

I was chuffed as my mum got me a card and flowers from dd and dd did me a little scribble.

YANBU, I'm ok with a card from dd a bunch of daffodils from church and a lie in/nap later in the day.

I don't expect riches bestowed uopn me, ditto valentines day. A card is fine and maybe a meal out but i don't expect jewels.

The best gift I could get on Mother's Day is a lie in until 10am and a cup of Earl Grey and toast with Nutella upon waking.

Cheap date, I know.

I had some lovely homemade cards, DS1 drew a fab picture of me, it was the most detailed and realistic picture he'd ever done (that wasn't a tank) and a pot of spring flowers for outside.
It was DS1's 6th birthday today anyway, so in no way about me, we had a lovely day out and laughed lots and that was better than anything from a jewellers.....

Except perhaps for diamonds.

Hmmm.

Seriously though, who expects jewellery for Mothers day? Valentines day maybe, lots of people propose on valentines day, but a bunch of daffs and some homemade cards, that is what it is all about, surely?

I would have been happy with anything

got a homemade card from ds(6) with a picture of mount everest on the outside and a platypus on the inside......??????

who could ask for more!

I don't 'do' Valentine's DAy...think it's a waste of time (and DH is over the moon at this stance!)
I don't want gifts on Mother's Day, either, but I do expect a little something...DCs are only 3 and 2, so not really able to commemorate just yet. A lie in, a nice meal out...I don't even care about a card...I just want to do something different. I said this morning that I actually can't wait until the kids get old enough to do me funny breakfasts in bed...there will be something really sweet about that, I think!

Card from the cats

we don't like to feel pressured into buying things just because we're TOLD to iykwim. My birthday is close to m.day here in the US. Last year was a 'big' birthday, so dh took me to choose some jewellery, and the place was swamped - people spending 100s on their wives for mothers day. i was amazed.

personally, i can never think of what to get my parents, and they can never think what i can get them either. so, i've decided, dd can do me a card, anything more than flowers or chocs etc just isnt' needed.

i do have a sneaky suspicion that some people just don't grow up enough to get over the whole 'i must be princess for a day' indulgence.
