Aibu to be annoyed to come home and find dh and bil installing big new telly in front room. Paid for by bil. I had made it clear to dh i didnt think we needed a giant telly. Now noone is talking to me.

don't know why no one has replied to you - but to be honest i think you are being a little unreasonable. I have told my DH twice in our 11 years together that i didn't want a new (see bigger) telly but i've relented and really i'm glad i did. He was right (it doesn't happen very often but when it comes to entertainment set ups he is).

Also on the plus side your bil paid for it, we are now saving to pay for our latest tv in 12 months time!

If the issue you have is size related then either a) you will get used to it (i promise) or b) sit further away

Don't really understand why no ones talking to you though!! You should be giving them the silent treatment!

dnt think YABtooU

mil wanted to buy us one of them flat screen ones for xmas. v.grateful i was for the offer but i get so jumpy when DS is around theirs i asked them to hold off for a while.

dnt thnk contents ins. covers clumsy kid syndrome!

your house is your house so reasonable you should have a say, still at least your DH didnt fork out for it.

YANBU I hate them -why does the tv have to be a big focal point in the room? We have a small portable because our living room isn't big and we do other things in it too.We need the big mirror on the wall not a tv. We have a multi channel tv package-doesn't mean we need a huge tv to watch them on.

Mind you, my Grandad's tv was in a big cabinet with the doors shut-I always thought that was odd!

we swapped our 16 year old 21" 4:3 telly for a 42" wide screen just before Xmas as ds was getting a wii. I wanted a 32-37" but as dh was super keen (its a boy thing!) I reluctantly relented and we got a 42" as there was a promotion on and they were the same price.

When it came out the box I hated it as it seemed huge, but picture was great and, honestly, when it was unpacked and exposed to air for a few weeks it actually shrunk and it is great. It is fantastic for the wii.

how big is it? and is bil just loaded and super generous or did he "buy" it as dh knew there was no other way he was getting one?

YANBU as it was done without consulting you (was it really a spontanous pressie), but "I had made it clear to dh i didnt think we needed a giant telly" sounds a little bit unreasonable like there wasnt room for discussion/compromise............
