for my 15 month old DS3 to have his hair trimmed. And by trimmed I'm talking about the little whispy bits cut around his ears.

Took DS1 to get his hair cut after school today, and after he was done I asked the barber if he would cut behind ds3's ears as it was looking messy. He said "Yes, but it'll cost you same price as a full haircut". For a 10 second trim? Didn't get it done, but that is a rip off! Done it myself at home in the end.

I wouldn't have minded paying a couple of quid, but full price!

YABU, because 6.50 is really cheap for a full haircut. Its certainly not a massive price for cutting a toddlers wispy bits.

Depends where you are located I suppose.

My hairdresser will trim DD's fringe for free when she does a full haircut (at full price for DS).

Here, I would think that's way too much to trim a few bits on a baby.

You are being perfectly reasonable - you would have imagined that they would have just done it for you for free - good customer relations and all that. I think they were being stingy and you are absolutely right to not bother.

yes very steep most will do for nothing just wisps its not as if it was a full haircut thats why i did and still do my ds hair when he was a baby if it was just wisps id wait till he was asleep lol

I live in the north east. The barbers is opposite ds1's school, so we use it every month. I'll continue to use it as well, but definitely won't be getting ds3's hair cut there until he needs a full head cut.

Mens haircuts around here sit at the £6 mark (though my Dad never pays more than £5 where he gets his done), but boys are anything from £2-3, and that's a full haircut. Considering you were just asking him to trim two tiny areas, I'd have thought that he would at most have charged you half his normal prices. Jeez, it's not like it would take up much time.

runnybottom - good grief, if £6.50 is a cheap men's haircut near you, what on earth do women have to pay to get a trim? Am I glad I don't have your hairdresser - I could never afford it!

However, the barber WBU. I take it you won't take your older DS to that particular barber again? If so then, he has lost a customer (and if you tell all your friends in your town they might hesitate to take their DSs there too.) The lady who does my 2 DDs in our local salon snipped the fluffy ends of my youngest's hair for free, until DD had what you would call a 'head of hair' rather than baby hair. I was very grateful to the hairdresser for giving her skills free of charge (I am rubbish at cutting hair) and recommended her to lots of friends with young children. You were right not to pay.

I'll still use him, as he is a good barber, and ds1 loves going there. It's also conveniently placed right by the school.

Very true that he wouldn't have understood "sit still now", but it is just as easy me holding his head while the barber snips the three strands hair.

Part of me thinks he should be keeping you sweet but part of me thinks he's probably worried he'll be doing BOGOF's when your children are teenagers, which is a bit paranoid, and has made a bad businessman/customer service dude of him in the process.

Get some clippers much cheaper or do it yourself. It is expensive imo, my dh pays £7.00 for his hair.

DH and DS2 have their hair done at home with the clippers. DS2 has autism, so hairdressers are a nono. I don't like DS1 having his hair too short, and ditto for ds3. Otherwise I'd shave the lot off.

I cut DS's hair - he has Asperger's, and it would be impossible for anyone else to do it. I think £6.50 is about what DH pays!
