AIBU to wish that people would not believe what the adverts want us to. for example; "I only use .....brand 'cos it's the best"

Even when it generally contains the cheapest ingredients 'cos the company wants to make huge profits.

Eh?

I think half of MN has gone a bit mad lately.

Don't understand squeaver comment

Don't understand what a do is

Think anyone who believes they are genuinely immune to all advertising lacks self awareness TBH.

ImSoNotTelling · 22/02/2010 12:28

Why come onto a thread with about 6 posters and make a sarcy comment, then pick out your mates and say "well not you obviously" about half the people on the thread?

Seems to be a lot of people being deliberately infammatory lately. If people want to talk about advertising then why not?

squeaver · 22/02/2010 12:32

Because these are kind of discussions that you have when you're 13 and suddenly become all wordly.

I wasn't really defending Edam etc - they were the only ones not getting all riled about something that's pretty bloody obvious.

End of. Nuff said. etc.

ImSoNotTelling · 22/02/2010 12:36

I don't think anyone was riled though really?

Just nattering.

Let's face it MN threads are hardly sensible at the best of times. If people want to talk about advertising , then why not let them?

If we all had to go onto threads and point out when they were shit/dull/repetitive/been done/silly etc etc there'd only be about one thread on here.

squeaver · 22/02/2010 12:40

Well there should only be one thread on here and it should be OF MY CHOOSING

I'll bugger off now.

ImSoNotTelling · 22/02/2010 12:41

What would you choose though?

I know which ones I would get rid of

sungirltan · 22/02/2010 12:41

i hate adverts.

my biggest irk is the 'assumed brand loyalty/superiority'...that advert that has two ladies discussing air freshener who say 'and its glad you know' and give knowing looks.as if people actually talk like that.

squeaver · 22/02/2010 12:47

Those ads are known in the trade as "2 Cs in a K", sungirltan. Nice, huh.

Now I really must get off this thread and find something more confrontational...

sungirltan · 22/02/2010 12:51

hmmm. k for kitchen?

more to the point adverts are the most shamefully sexist media ever.

when i see an advert for vanish with only male actors i will be happier

blonde36er · 22/02/2010 13:10

Those bloody Brand Power adverts...grrr!

sungirltan · 22/02/2010 13:40

yeh i dont understand them - is brandpower a shop?

they take patronising to a whole new level!

(meanwhile ponders....gosh i wish i had someone to help me choose loo cleaner...i'd be a much better 50's housewife if i did!')

SPBInDisguise · 23/02/2010 08:47

so squeaver, when you posted, was i riled or talking like a 13yo? Can you show me where please?
Not often I get really angry about a thread / comments on MN but this "laugh at the idiots" one is close. Smug lack of self awareness - good point ISNT

squeaver · 23/02/2010 18:23

Neither, SPB. I was being an arse.

BlueBumedFly · 23/02/2010 18:36

Do you mind, that's my livelihood you are casting nurstushums (sp?) on! But yes, it's all a load of well researched customer need shite!

BlueBumedFly · 23/02/2010 18:37

Darn that strike through not working!!

i'm going to blithely ignore the fighting on this thread and drag it kicking and screaming back on topic

the adverts i hate the most are the ones that make people (ok, women) paranoid about something they probably never thought about before...

things like 'i used to worry when people come round that my house doesn't smell nice.. but now i buy xxx airfreshner' or 'my dishwasher pongs so now i've got a dangly freshner in it' or 'do you worry about your fanjo smelling, then buy scented tampons'

ok, so i sound like i've particularly got a thing about smell but i'm sure there are others... wrinkles are another similar one, making people worry about laughter lines fgs! or 'sunspots' errr.. yes, freckles.. some of us would have to stop leaving the house or wear a burkha to avoid them!

i don't mind at all the ones that say 'buy this car and you'll be sexier' or 'this shampoo is shinier than the others'...

BlueBumedFly · 23/02/2010 18:48

Reality- apologies for my spelling not being up to your standard, I did add (sp?) for a very good reason and my name being wrong and my general idiocy with strike through. Would you like to have a go at my chosen profession as well? Maybe my kids?
