To not move from the sofa because its freezing and the gas has run out

We have a british gas meter - it is costing us nearly £50 a WEEK admittedly, we have some insulation ishoos! Anyway - gas went again this morning, i put it onto emergency - but just dont want to put the heating on So have fired up our lovely wood burning stove which is bellowing out heat, and its lovely - and im sat here with slipper boots, the dog is deleriously happy with his head almost in the fire, i have a throw over me and the lap top on my lap - if i get up to do housework, im going to freeze - the kitchen is sub zero atm.

So, it is moraly right, i think, not to move from here until i have to pick DD up.

Also - FUCK YOU BRITISH GAS!!!

Does anyone know if it is more carbon neutral to burn coal than have the gas fired central heating on?

I'd do exactly the same as you! Stay in the warm definitely!

Can you change from a meter? Those things are awful.

YANBU

Another "fuck you" to British Gas from me too. I'm sure they think we couldn't survive without em.

BariatricObama · 11/02/2010 12:24

doing house work is quite warming!

BariatricObama · 11/02/2010 12:25

'I'm sure they think we couldn't survive without em. '

with teh demise of coal fired power stations that might actually be true

BAFE · 11/02/2010 12:27

Couldn't we just use electricity for everything though? In theory? Or am I being a bit thick here?

sb6699 · 11/02/2010 12:28

Sounds cosy - I love my open fire!

Enjoy.

(I hate British Gas too)

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/02/2010 12:30

god i am defo not moving house....my house is toasty. you should spend the day in front of that roaring fire - why waste energy on housework!

BariatricObama · 11/02/2010 12:31

bafe you are being a little thick. coal fired power stations are being replaced with gas fired ones to create teh electricity so we are screwed by our reliance on gas

LEMprefersdogstocats · 11/02/2010 12:34

can't change kaloki no - we are paying off a debt - to be absolutely fair, i prefer having the meter - it makes me watch what i use - we were getting gas bills of over £700!!

BG actually don't charge more than a nominal extra amount for their gas on meter - or so they say! Im a bit about that.

hmmmm, now i have to get up to add more coal to the fire - dog moved away now he cant stand the heat!
