eg snow
christmas
in this romanticised idea of " oh it will be lovely just like childhood in the golden post war era " and everyone will live in a nuclear family and eat bread and butter for tea and not swear or have tvs in their bedrooms

THEN the event comes

and its shit

and NOT what they expected

and then they moan

or not

I think that everyone hypes things up. And a lot of people hype up christmas.

cheesesarnie · 11/01/2010 14:06

isnt it called looking on the bright side and being positive rather than negative?

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 14:06

but then its shit

and they are all suprsied

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 11/01/2010 14:06

I think any large group of people (whether in public, at a workplace, on an internet forum or whatever) has the potential to hype things up

It can get a bit tedious

The news doesn't help

'The Big Freeze' etc etc, blah blah

fernie3 · 11/01/2010 14:07

if no one did it the world would be a very depressing place to live!

cheesesarnie · 11/01/2010 14:07

btw ' " oh it will be lovely just like childhood in the golden post war era " and everyone will live in a nuclear family and eat bread and butter for tea and not swear or have tvs in their bedrooms'

that is the cheesesarnie family completly.

mrsruffallo · 11/01/2010 14:07

Oooh, who's got your goat garry dear?

Carrotfly · 11/01/2010 14:08

Of course, people cant live without a bit of hype these days.

missorinoco · 11/01/2010 14:11

Think that's life.

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 14:12

It's human nature I think.
In the summer it'll be 'yea! heatwave on it's way, get t=your parasols out'
and a week later 'too fking hot to do anything, wish it would rain'

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 11/01/2010 14:18

I am still enjoying the snow.

notnowbernard · 11/01/2010 14:18

The weather thing generally is pissing me off

It's all people at work are talking about

People in bus queues

Smalltalk with shopkeepers etc

Endless threads on MN

Constantly on news

And my Mother continues to call on a daily basis to enquire about the weather (she lives 7m away )

Bonsoir · 11/01/2010 14:22

No. I planned it meticulously for a few months (people coming from abroad, so tickets etc) and didn't let the fact that I had a vile cold, my MOL's cancer prevented her from joining in and then I got gastro-enteritis on Boxing Day prevent me from really enjoying myself!

Francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2010 14:23

"And my Mother continues to call on a daily basis to enquire about the weather (she lives 7m away"

The weather is really hyped in the media worldwide, it's annoying (not talking about global warming, just endless pieces of news heat/cold/snow/rain)

Lizzylou · 11/01/2010 14:24

We've had snow now since the week before Christmas, not just last week.

Sick of it now.

Christmas was lovely, all white (and meticulously planned ).

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 14:24

yes me too
boring boring

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2010 14:24

I'm always ill on boxing day.

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 14:25

we are always ill after a trip to MILS

have told her germ central is OFF my list next year

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 11/01/2010 14:26

Indeed the media creates weather headlines akin to MN ante-natal and post-natal thread titles

"We're colder than a freezer...and it ain't over yet!!!" etc etc
