I have a basketful.
Cat has just settled herself on it.

I can´t disturb her, can I?

Nope, let sleeping dogs cats lie and all that
It's a complete waste of time if you ask me, you'll only have to do it all again next week. Have a coffee and some cake and put your feet up.

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/12/2009 14:16

It would be cruel to disturb the cat. You absolutely must not do the ironing.

diddl · 31/12/2009 14:17

Yes, cats do have to be left to finish their napping in peace, don´t they?

shockers · 31/12/2009 14:21

Her body heat will smooth them... best left to it, she's doing you a favour!

overmydeadbody · 31/12/2009 14:23

Not at all.

Let the cat sleep.

KurriKurri · 31/12/2009 14:25

No ironing should not be done until it reaches the ceiling. If God had wanted you to iron, he wouldn't have invented cats.

deaddei · 31/12/2009 14:26

Drop it off at my house- we're not doing anything for NYE so I'll get it done for you.
Make sure you bring hangers.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 31/12/2009 14:26

YANBU

I'm not doing any until next week and I doubt I'll do it all

issysmilkbottle · 31/12/2009 14:32

i've not done much since my emcs 5 weeks ago and the pile has been growing.... But i reckon it'll hit critical mass soon

Mind you, got my new tumble dryer yesterday so hardly any ironing from now if i fold while hot! Yay!

KurriKurri · 31/12/2009 14:35

DH and I usually refer to this job as 'tackling the north face of mount ironing'

FluffyForLifeNotJustForXmas · 31/12/2009 19:18

There are certain things that you need not bother ironing:

Sheets (you lie on them!!)
Socks
underpants (I keep telling my mother this, who o why??)
Sleeves and backs of shirts (when they are under a jumper who cares? You can't see the creases)
Ties
Some trousers
Shorts (who the hell needs to wear them in this weather?)
Pyjamas (no one will see them, save the time, have a nice glass of wine and a sit down.

I reckon this slashes the ironing, your mountain will soon be a mole hill.

Southwind · 31/12/2009 19:38

Pour yourself a wine and do it next year

Fibilou · 31/12/2009 19:39

never disturb a sleeping cat. Ironing can wait - especially on nye

dawntigga · 01/01/2010 09:08

YANBU - pay somebody else to do it, life's too short!

I had the same dilema before Christmas - and still haven't persuaded myself to do it!

GenieoftheTramp · 01/01/2010 11:28

Buy non iron shirts, reduces the pile even more

bentneckwine1 · 01/01/2010 11:37

I stood and tackled my ironing mountain last night...it was getting so out of hand that I had slept in the spare bed twice because my bed was covered in neat little piles of folded clothes!!

Didn't want to start the new year off in the spare bed so decided to open a bottle of wine and do the ironing whilst watching the hogmany television. Started at around 7pm and finished the last pair of DS school trousers at 11.47pm. (And he has been on holiday from school for two weeks so that shows how behind I was).

Opened some munchies, filled up my glass and was ready to face the bells at midnight with clear concience...then crawled upstairs to my bed which was clear too!! (Sadly have just finished two loads of washing this morning which is currently drying on the screens and radiators...and so the cycle of ironing carrys on........).

KurriKurri · 01/01/2010 12:09

Well done Bentneck, I am using a chest infection as an excuse at the moment. That's what I hate about ironing, its so bloody pointless, it never ends and people just crease up what you've ironed by wearing it.

diddl · 01/01/2010 12:13

Oh bentneck, you put me to shame!

Well, the cat´s not on the ironing pile anymore, but it´s New Years Day, so a holiday, right?

Maybe tomorrow!

Happy New Year everyone!

My ironing pile now goes in the shed- partly because that's where the tumble dryer is but mainly so that I don't have to see how big it is!! We don't have a cat so had to think of a different excuse

MollieO · 01/01/2010 13:44

Kurri I like your thinking. Unfortunately it does in this house (from the top of the washing machine to a low ceiling in the futility room) so that is my afternoon task, along with packing and coughing (skiing tomorrow with a chest infection - again).

In my defence I do iron everything except tights .

looneytune · 01/01/2010 13:55

Thank god we don't iron!!!

saladfingers · 01/01/2010 14:10

haven't ironed since 2002 and dont honestly think anyone has even noticed!

bentneckwine1 · 01/01/2010 18:59

LOL diddl

You wouldn't be so impressed if you could have seen my bedroom this last week or so. All the boxes/packaging from christmas presents thrownstored on the floor until I decided which ones needed keeping.

Empty boxes which house the christmas decorations living behind the bed because their seemed no point putting the empty boxes back in the loft for the sake of a few weeks. So once the tree comes down on Sunday I will clear away these boxes into the loft along with present boxes.

Piles of ironing all neatly arranged on my bed by type (I like my chaos to be organised!!)...so that for the last few days since christmas I either had to lift all the ironing down onto the floor to get into bed then rearrange in the morning. Or sleep on the pullout bed in DS room...which is what I had been doing but last night decided that I was not starting the new year in that uncomfortable bed!!

Hence tackling the ironing mountain on hogmany...not as exciting as I might have planned but it got the job done!!
BUT you absolutely must not do ironing on New Years Day..I think it is against some ancient bylaw!!
