to be concerned about FiL & Swine Flu

I'm about 6weeks pg and FiL has just told me that he has been diagnosed with swine flu today and is on his way to pick up tamiflu.

Thing is we are supposed to be joining him and family for christmas on the 21st of Dec. How long is the incubation period?

Are other family members likely to catch it/pass it on?

Should we still go? Sounds like an obvious question, but this has been planned since october 2008 because divorced parents etc... means we take turns to spend christmas with different people to make sure everyone gets to spend it with DS and I know that he and SiL's will be bitterly disappointed if we don't go

if he makes a good recivery then you should be ok to go. IME most people seem to have it for 5 days or so and it's at it's most infectious just prior to and during the primary outbreak of most virulemt symptoms.

If other family members catch it nearer the time who might be there you may have to give it a miss though.

The route of transmission is strange though, I know a couple of households (my parents included mum got it dad didn't) where one member has had it and the rest have remained symptom free.

Thanks minx. That's good to know.

Been very worried about it and DH isn't home to calm my panic-y ways yet

You could be immunised?

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 10/12/2009 21:28

Decide nearer the time, it may well be done by xmas.

Fruitysunshine · 10/12/2009 21:33

I had it recently and was advised by gp to stay indoors for 7 days. Nobody in my huge household caught it except for me! I was lots better after 5 days though..

Gracie123 · 10/12/2009 21:39

So it's probably only catchable for 7 days?

Probably do need to decide nearer the time really. I'm just have very severe trypanophobia so GP prefers not to give me innoculations etc whilst pg as I am unable to take diazepam/valium
