to be thinking WTF at TV Licensing?

I moved in my new home in April and started paying a schedule of £5.50 per week. I saw on the schedule paper that I had paid the last of the £5.50's on the 30th October. I reckoned all the payments up and they came to £143.00 - a tv license is £142.50...great thought I, I have paid for the year, I won't have to start paying anything again til next year. How wrong was I...I have recieved a new schedule in the post today which says i'll be paying again from this Friday. Surely I have paid my TV License for the year, so that should be it til next year?

Never pay TV licensing this way as they screw you over and you never stop paying! It is always 6 months in advance whether you like it or not. I would suggest stopping the plan now as you are payed up then saving to pay outright in april.

They're really really bad. As roulade says, you're paying 6m in advance all the time.

Put a fiver in a tin every week and when the licence is due you'll have more or less enough to cover it. That way at least they don't get to make interest out of your money.

I pay mine quarterly I put money aside every month and every 3rd month it comes off by direct debit. With weekly you are paying way ahead like roulade said.

I grudge paying the tv license anyway but I'm too scared not to have one incase I get caught and dragged off to court.

Thanks for your replies. They're real bastards aren't they? My current license lasts til March next year, so why the heck can't they wait for my payments for license 2010/2011 to start then? Grr, and I thought I might be able to afford Christmas a little more without the TVL to worry about, guess not!

So cancel the payment plan and start again in March! That's what I did and they didn't bother me - they won't start to hassle you again until the current one runs out.
