Has anyone ever seen a thread that's been started about them by someone they know in RL?

Or had someone they know in real life see a thread you've started asking something personal about them on MN?

More of a WWYD really, I've noticed there's a lot of posters who say they've changed their normal nickname as they know their family/friends go on MN, but would that stop someone recognising their own details on the thread??

Hi Generalunrest I was thinking exactly the same today when I was reading one particular thread, it must happen surely?

In fact, as a newbie (I think that is what we are called) I was going to start a thread about something that had happened in RL and then decided against it as I thought the person I was going to have the rant about is probably on MN.

I have decided that I need to be very careful when posting - just in case ....

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 07/09/2009 16:14

Yes I have.

It was not pleasant.

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:16

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:17

Corporalcornsilk · 07/09/2009 16:17

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 07/09/2009 16:18

JudgeGibByTheCutOfHerJib · 07/09/2009 16:20

I remember the pizza express one. I remember thinking 'what are the chances?'

brimfull · 07/09/2009 16:20

pizza one was hilarious

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:22

And recently one about a deputy head.
that was fab.
and of course when Gina ford came on
and the friend of the mad tikabilla woman.

I knwo too much

Jacksmama · 07/09/2009 16:22

I have, too.
It was horrible.

A former friend whom I didn't want to see again found out I post on MN and wrote about our falling-out to get people to say how awful I was being. What was most was that she said I was being awful because our falling-out meant she couldn't see my baby anymore . WTF???
Anyway - I read the thread and thought, huh, that sounds just like X and me, how sad that this happened to someone else [thicko emoticon] and then a certain way she phrased something made the penny drop... I felt hot and cold all over that something so personal was being written about me.
Fortunately when MN opinion was mostly against her she got pissy about it and had the thread deleted. But not before dragging a mutual friend into the whole thing.

God, what gets into some people??

brimfull · 07/09/2009 16:22

what dep head one?

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:22

i think I chatted to Gina for quite a while while everyone else was in a field at beetys.

brimfull · 07/09/2009 16:23

blimey jacksmama-does she still post?

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:23

oh ggilr
DO keep up.
oh someone moaning about school uniform
then teh DH rang her at home to rant about it

er... right to a private life?

MarshaBrady · 07/09/2009 16:25

Yes I know someone who was upset by a thread on here.

It's how I heard about mn.

ShowOfHands · 07/09/2009 16:27

Tell me about the sj one Noah.

funkybuddah · 07/09/2009 16:27

No, but im afraid to post something incase someone will recognise, may do it anyway.

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 16:29

there was the usual moaning about her and her mate came on and defended her rather loyally

ShowOfHands · 07/09/2009 16:33

What was the defence? Is there one?

My parents said to me a few months ago, oh we read your dd's birth announcement on MN. I wasn't aware they could switch on a computer let alone connect to the outside world. I don't think they realised there was an MN world outside of that one thread though.

catinthehat2 · 07/09/2009 16:35

Yes, poster commenting about bereaved person. BP then came on line very not amused. Thread pulled very quickly once people realised and started reporting it. Was an absolute carcrash. Vague about details, mainly as it was over & done with so quickly, but if you saw it you would remember it
