To be miffed that after one week back at school, DD has two sponsored events?

I think I probably am, but honestly, two? One is a book read, the other is a run. Both events are raising money for a very good cause (same one), but, I sponsor two children in Burma and have a standing order which comes from our British bank account. AIBU to want to bin the fecking forms even though it becomes a competition between the kids in the class as to who can raise the most.

I'd be miffed too. Speak to the school and say that you don't feel comfortable being a charity donation fund during a recession and could these please be kept out of school. Or at least limited to one per term.

I'm heartened by the replies. I don't want to be seen as mean, but, DH is in a relativley poorly paid job (compared to the hedge fund managers etc) and we really struggle some months. Our car is probably the oldest Ford in the school carpark, easy to spot amongst the Porsches, Lamborghini's etc and I don't want DD to stand out. I do think it is a liberty though to more or less put the kids in competition against each other. I'll see head after school hopefully.

Its not mean at all, you can't possibly go round friends/neighbours etc asking them to sponsor her twice, which means you would end up having to sponsor her (hopefully you aren't as tragically pathetic as me and make up sponsors so that dds form doesn't look so empty )

YANBU. Some schools seem to think we are all made of money. And I hate asking friends and neighbours for sponsorship.

I can't understand why there are 2 sponsored events for the same charity- why not just one?
Heads should limit fundraising to one event a term, and consider a variety of different charities eg children, old people,cancer.
I have no problem at all with one a term- I think it is good for children to be made aware of less fortunate people. I just put a donation in, not sponsor- we haven't got any family!

YANBU. Also I really don't like the idea of children having to compete against each other to raise the most funds. Most unfair on dc without large family/neighbour/parents' colleagues networks imo.

No I don't like that idea at all- it's not about who raises the most at all!!!
