I am so sick and tired of the conservatives painting single parent families as being the scum of the earth.

We didnt choose to be on our on with our kids.... we work hard to provide themwith a stable home and be both the parents.... its bloody hard work and to be acused of causing a "broken britain" i think is quite frankly insulting.

I would like to make a dart board with his face on it!
that or leave him to look after my kids for a weekend, cope on a small income and cope with abuse from my ex!

I dislike David Cameron. He has no clear policies whatsoever, his favourite line is "look at labour, we definitely won't be doing that." I don't want to know what you WON'T be doing, I want to know what you WILL be doing you posh twunt. He tries to make out that the Conservatives have changed and become all touchy-feely, but they haven't really.

It's sad that the alternative is Gordon Brown. If Labour got someone with half a backbone to represent them, there might not be such a tide of middle- and working-class voters going Conservative

I can't understand why he's so popular, and always ahead in the polls, with no policies at all just a huge aura of smug irritating twattery, and treating the Great British Public like morons!!

I have tried and tried and the only good thing I can come up with about Cameron is that he seemed to be very hands-on with Ivan, which is not typical of either politicians or upper-class men (sweeping generalisation alert).

But that does not make me want to hand over the country to him on a golden platter.

Sorry but some of what he says does make sense.

There are all kinds of single parents- there are widows and widowers, the divorced, the deserted and the plain feckless- families who have children when they cannot have a hope in hell of supporting them other than on benefits, have never worked in their lives and have no intention of doing so, and whose children follow the same pattern. It's that cycle of dependency on the statte that needs to be looked at and controlled in a better way. There are literally hundreds of thousands of these families who are costing us billions in benefits.

The Tories do have policies, but if you look at what has happened time and time again in the past few years, the minute they open their mouths Labour steal the policy as they know it's a vote-winner. Any wonder they are keeping some ideas under wraps til nearer the election?

Rather than believing all you read or don't read in the popular tabloids - do you listen to quality radio/TV progs like The World at One, PM, Today, or watch BBC Newsnight - you will hear in-depth discussions with politicians so you can make your minds up by being better informed.

You say policies umnder wraps becuase of risk of Labour stealing them, I say policies under wraps because they are either non existent or would negatively affect vulneralble people..... who knows? Only, I do know i'd not consider supporting a party whose policies are under wraps.

And yes I do watch Newsnight, I am a member of a party and it it is neitehr Labour not the Tories. A sthey say on TV,'Other brands may be available' LOL

I hate him slightly less than his loathsome party. But he's going to be Prime Minister and for that Labour can only blame themselves. I mean ourselves. It's really about time I joined a party and stood up to be counted I suppose .

Purplepeony- every time I hear Cameron or Osborne or any of his other smarmy cronies interviewed, they're always getting pressed for policies but constantly evading the question...they're merely coasting on the public's fedupness of New Labour. Think Cameron actually said "policy isn't important- you just need to be able to trust the person" or words to that effect. ie "you are all morons,so vote for meeeeee! vote for meeeeeee! I wear trainers and drink tea out of a mug, just like you scumbags normal folk!"

they don't tell you what their policies are because either they don't know themselves, or they are eeeeeeeevil beyond belief

Personally I think Britain is broken.
Binge drinking in the streets and no one thinks anything of people throwing up all over the place and this is in the city on a work night.
We have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe-and for every good teenage mum there are many more who damage and destroy their children.
It's not what he thinks about the opportunities for single children-it's what studies have shown-everytime a study comes out a few loud people say that didn't happen to me and think that makes the study wrong. It doesn't it just means they weren't affected but it CAN still mean most are.
Parental responsibility has all but disappeared daughters can access contraception and abortion pills through school from the age of 11 and parents need never know. What about the potential emotional trauma that causes.
People fall into and out of family units before they get to properly know someone. Someone on here was slammed for saying that she wouldn't let someone near her kids because they hadn't been CRB'd. Why is this so bad?
Civil liberties are eroded for the "War on Terror", torture becomes acceptable according to David Milliband and then we release a convicted terrorist for a deal on oil.
I may think DC is smug and smarmy but at least he has the guts to open up debate and start suggesting people take responsibility for their own lives

Weeellll there's a few generalisations there aren't there silver?

SOME people fall into and out of family units

SOME single apents (would you go and throw those studies at a widow, or someone hqwose DH had left them? of course not)

Gneralisations such as those alienate people and add to the outside- of - society group that really does cause a lot of the social problems you are alluding to.

DC isn't the only [person talking about these issues,plenty are, but there are a great many issues DC will not talk about and they are important too. Such as funding for disabled people, special ed etc (plus many other things not so relevant to me no doubt)

I do have a problem with people who have essentially been born with a silver spoon in their mouths becoming elected to public office and then sermonizing about the supposed existence and evils of a social underclass of which they know nothing.

I often find myself having to switch off the radio these days because of the single-parent-responsible-for-all-evil-in-society-and-moral-danger-to-the-respectable campaign being waged these days. LBC can't have a week without a benefit scum debate. But this message is what appeals to the right-wing set.

I do think it is quite irresponsible to initmate that one set of people (and not those with the connections, or the power,or the wealth, or the influence) are responsible for the countries woes. Alienisation is not the way to rouse people. It gets me quite angry.

I think that Britain is broken in many ways but blaming the ''victims'' is not the way foward.
I also believe that there is a decline in moral standards. Most of the men I have met are only interested in sex and not commitment. I blame a breakdown of religious values. If a man sleeps with me then he knows he dosn't have to commit or marry so he can move on to the next one easily. Same goes for girls.
HOWEVER, I am not saying that a return to bigotted religion is the answer. Mabe we should all learn to respect each other and other people. I never wanted to be a single mum and I would love for a man to accept me for who I am and love me and cherish me.
I went to a privete school and I can assure you that the old boys network is alive and kicking in this country today and they call the shots. they practicaly rule the country and help each other out. Unfortunately they are very misogynistic and I do believe that Cameron is one of them as are a lot of ex public school boys.
They have little resect for women and are quick to condemn them.
