To be pissed off with call centres!! Grrr!

OK, so this call centre guy calls up about 15 mins ago. Witheld number of course. Harps on about being able to give vouchers towards a new fitted kitchen or bathroom, he said he was from 'something' media group, never got the whole company name.

DH had answered the call and said "listen mate, I'm not interested"

The call centre guy said "You're not interested because you're a dick!!"

DH says "fuck off" and hangs up.

DH wishes he had said "well, I might be a dick but you are the one with a shite job".

We are registered with TPS and never got the whole name of this company so can't even complain about it but it makes me mad that they can not only call up when you're on TPS, but be fecking rude at the same time and you can't even complain about the feckers!!!

I'm sorry but that made me laugh - I will note the potential omeback from your DH if I ever get a call centre person accusing me of being a dick in the future though.

I was told by BT that if you ever get one of these calls you should immediately take their company name and location and contact number and then tell them "thank you, I have all the information I need to pass on to have you prosecuted, as we're registered with the TPS and it's illegal for you to phone me"....

I don't know if it IS illegal or not but it certainly shuts them up

Hi Holy, not sure if this is bona fide or not but my DH reckons that if you tell BT they could still take action - maybe the number would be recorded on their system, as ong as you know the time of the call (which it sounds like you do!) even though it was withheld to you, IYSWIM. Hope he's right!! And good luck, if so...

I used to work in a call centre so I know how devious they can be.
The place I worked in got round the TPS rules because " technically" TPS only blocks direct sales calls.
We used to ring people up, ask them to complete a quick survey, find out if they had any debt & if they did our sister company would ring them & offer them a massive loan (pre credit crunch).
It's a very shameful job, paid really well though.

Some twat from a call centre rung us last night & 9.30! I told them i wasnt interested & how did they get me number cos we are regsitered with TPS,surprisingly they put the phone down

We have this problem with sales people - my telephone number is my parents old one we are ex directory and they weren't we are constantly asked for to speak to my mum - who has been dead for over 3 years, when I tell them this they have the gall to say well do you want ... I bloody hate them!

I must admit annoying as they are, I feel so sorry for the people that have these jobs, times are hard and they are just trying to keep the roof over their heads same as rest of us. Alright this particular guy was a tosser but generally I try really hard to get rid while still being polite, imagine being yelled at by everybody all evening while you are at work, they are people you know.

LOh I hate thhem, especially when they're so jolly, then when they get it in to their head you're not interested they're either rude or put the phone down.

As soon as they launch into their spiel I put the phone down, very rude I know, but they twitter on for ages before coming to the point and you know you don't want what they are selling any way.

What really galls me is the times they call - usually in the middle of dinner or when you're trying to get kids to bed.

What makes my blood boil even more is those calls which, when you answer them, are a bloody automated message - you can't even be rude to them! They were my pet hate when DS was a baby, as you could guarantee the phone would ring mid-nappy change or the moment he'd dozed off and I would race to the phone expecting it to be something important and it would be some mechanical American accent telling me I'd won something in a draw as long as I rang a really expensive number in Australia or somewhere to confirm my prize ... yeah, right!

I know it's annoying. But they're on commission and the bollockings you get when you don't meet your 'lead targets' are unreal. That's why they are so pushy - if you don't manage to push at least 1 person an hour into having an appointment, the manager will stand and tell you, in front of everyone, what a loser you are.

Ah, the famous ""survey" trick! My DP took one of these calls recently (he was clearly bored) and had a deal of fun trying to establish the scale of this "survey in your local area". Not least because there's nothing to actually survey round here. Except increasingly odd cattle.
