Apparantly, murdera are not the fault of the person holding the knife, but in fact are the fault of the NHS for not getting to the victim more quickly.

That is, indeed, a pretty thick thing to say.
I have never liked him because he made several speeches in which he said he doesn't believe in grammar schools because not getting into one was v bad for his sister. Which is sad and everything, but not enough to base an entire education policy on.

Which is all besides the point really. I was going to say that there is an interesting article here about whether the punishment should be the same for the speeding driver who hits a lamp-post as for the speeding driver who hits a child in front of the same lamp-post. Same action, but different consequences - but should the punishment include the element of "chance" that put the child in the way? Quite an interesting one, I think. (I actually think throw the book at all speeding drivers meself, regardless...)

I find him unpleasant and arrogant. Way too "blokeish" for my liking and always sounds really patronising on the today programme, lots of smarmy calling the interviewer by their first name and sounding as though his way is the only way. I was delighted when he disappeared for a while.
