to pop a boob out at will?

the "BF repression" thread has got me thinking that maybe I ought not perform a milky page 3 redux?

Normally I do go for the feeding room as they have softer chairs, but I will happily feed DD wherever. I tend to put a scarf over her head if there are strangers in close quarters, and I have been known to pop off to the Ladies room if it's especially busy or noisy so DD doesn't get distracted...

but

I was not aware that BFing in public was considered remotely pervy or weird ? I would have considered the person who thought a baby eating is sexual was the pervy one?

I cannot tell if this is down to a feral, BF-is-just-what's-done upbringing or the Yank side of me that will happily stare down the cats'-bum faces and tell them to piss off. (actually, I usually tell them that if they keep staring at my tits I will have to start charging )

yanbu.

I met someone who would bf if it was a girl but not a boy as her dp thought that would be weird...

I dread to think what would have happened if she had fed in public!

whomovedmychocolate · 21/07/2009 23:09

I don't care either. If they want to look, they can look, if they want to purse their lips, they can do so. Only makes them look more like arses!

YANBU - carry on with the good work! Attitudes towards breastfeeding are getting better, but still have a long way to go in the UK (and the US). The more people who "pop a boob out", the more acceptable it will eventually become.

Tortington · 21/07/2009 23:12

i got both mine out unintentionally whilst walking past the chippy the other day - dh nearly fainted

curlyredhead · 21/07/2009 23:21

God, you are so NBU. Feed at will. Let the catbums think what they want.

FfreckleFface · 21/07/2009 23:47

Absolutely NBU. Get 'em out. There is nothing more natural, and other people's misguided disapproval should in no way inhibit you feeding your child.

littlelamb · 21/07/2009 23:48

Custy are you Judy Finnigan?

Tortington · 21/07/2009 23:50

pmsl a poor imitator i;m afraid

littlelamb · 21/07/2009 23:53

Damn, I would have loved that.
Incidentally, when I did a quick google to find out how to spell her last name, the google predictor thingy came out with 'judy finnigan alcoholic'. Love it

apologies for the post and run... I thought DD was down for the night but we had a rough time instead.

oopsagain Will is my BIL and my 18 mo neighbor and now I'm re-reading my post

I suppose I should know better about BFing and pervy people. I used to work for a large online company who sold, amongst all and sundry, porn. I distinctly remember a very timid google session after someone mentioned they were looking for videos featuring "recently pregnant [discovered to = lactating] women"! There are some things that cannot be unseen [blech]

I bf when out & about & no one notices as people are busy doing their own things. My dd is nearly 2 & I still bf when I'm out - nothing has been said by anyone. It's hard to see really that I'm actually bf.

WelliesAndPyjamas · 22/07/2009 12:57

Do you know, I can honestly say I haven't come across any catbums in the past 5 months of bfing in public. In fact I've had a couple of nice older ladies come up to me on separate occasions to say how nice it is to see someone nursing a baby I don't show much and use a scarf if he's fidgetey so there's nothing to scare anyone but it is quite clear what I am doing. Can't remember any weird looks 6 yrs ago with ds1 either.

proverbial · 22/07/2009 13:35

I remember getting a few looks especially when DS2 was at that pop on and off and try and play with your nips stage, which is harder to be discrete with!
Shouting "I've seat next to me if you want a better look!" across a cafe at a couple openly staring with catsbum faces was not my finest hour though....
