To want to report India Knight ...

Am a long term lurker but feel very angry about this and can't think of what to do about it. India Knight today twittered:
"Also, imagine getting so cross about a social networking site. Like it, don't like it, whatevs. No need to have an epi."

My son has epilepsy and I find this offensive. Anything I can do about it?

It really isn't a very nice thing to say, I agree, but surely the point of Twitter is for people put down whatever they're thinking or doing without it being subject to censorship. You could trying sending her one of those '@' replies and state that you didn't appreciate it...

Just ignore it. IK has a disabled child herself so I'd expect her to be a bit more sensitive.

I would have credited her with more sense than that. Very bad form. I thought that she had a child with special needs, if that is the case you would expect her to display more sensitivity.

YANBU.

India Knight, for example, is a twat.

HOWEVER, it's not like she wrote it in the Times, unless she's using Twitter like an on the go blog under the banner of the Times. If it's her personal opinion on her personal site then there's not much you can do about it, other than, as Nancy suggested, stop following her on Twitter (why would you anyway?) or replying to her and saying it wasn't very nice.

Thanks FioFio - thought just occurred to me as you don't hear many people (over 10) talk about 'epis' but loads of people talk about fits.

can't belive people are saying it should be ignored simply because she also has a disabled child!

is this not the same as "i cant be racist because my best friend is black"

the term is offensive, whether she realised it or not and it should be bought to her attention.

she was always a big ole bird - then her and the other one came up with this diet. it's basically The Atkins with a few added grapes and India claimed she'd followed it and dropped from a size 18 to a size 10....american size 10 maybe.

YANBU.

"No need to step in front of a bus" can't be offensive to those who have a relative who has died in bus accidents.

"No need to jump off a cliff" can't be offensive to those who have a relative who have committed suicide by jumping off cliffs.

Similarly, "No need to have epilepsy" can't be offensive to those who have a relative with epilepsy. Although it is a very stupid thing to say.

Having said that, I read that 'epi' as episiotomy. As someone who has had a horrible time with an episiotomy, should I be offended? Probably not.

I don't do Twitter but when I read your post, I presumed she was talking about the epidural debate that is raging on all the radio stations this week.

Are you sure she was talking about epilepsy?

If she was, then YANBU.
