People are scared of spiders???

They kill the nasty germ ridden flys, we should be celebrating them, otherwise we would be overrun with puke sucking, shit walking flies that pass germs onto everything they touch.

I never minded spiders, but didnt like the webs (blame an early episode of Dr Who). Then I lived in the country and upstairs had loads of cobwebs and spiders. They caught so many pesky flies it was brilliant.
Also a good excuse not to dust.

I like tarantulas and am always elbowing schoolchildren out the way at Butterfly and Insect World to handle them.

I absolutely hate flies but I'm not at all scared of them. I am terrified of spiders though and I've absolutely no idea why. Logic tells me they can't hurt me, and that they are good because they get rid of manky flies, but I'm still very scared of them. I know my fear is completely irrational but that doesn't help. I'd love to be able to look at a spider without freaking out but I just can't see past their hairy legs and lightening movements

YANBU because I don't understand it either.

We live in Aus too and the first huntsman spider (size and appearance of a tarantula) was in dd's bedroom all night with them. we managed to get it out, they run like really fast !!! We then told them that spiders were there to look after them when mummy and daddy went to bed !!

what is the strangest thing about these spiders is that things that you usually see in the zoo are in your house

You are right OP. 100% right.

Doesn't stop me totally terrified of them. Can't help it. It's a visceral terror.
