To think that John Lewis should get its act together?

Apparently, knickers for girls aged between 2 and 8 are highly sought after, and that is why John Lewis on Oxford Street has not had any in stock the last two times I have been there.

AIBU to think a large department store should make an effort to up their buying efforts and try and make sure they have this basic item in stock. And not say "oooh, lots of people ask this" and giggle inanely when I query it.

That is very useless of them

Her other comment was "we have lots of vests". Thanks, I'll get her to put her legs through the arm holes, stitch up the neck holes and tie some elastic round her waist. That should do the trick.

Go to M & S instead?

Maybe business is suffering now the MPs have lost the John Lewis list and they've lost heart?

(Not that MPs were necessarily buying from John Lewis itself, but couldn't resist!)

ClaireDeLoon · 19/05/2009 22:49

Maybe they've merged with bravissimo who have run out out of knickers in my size, apparently.

muffle · 19/05/2009 22:50

Actually I find horrendous pants shortages pretty much everywhere I try to buy pants, including JL, M&S and supermarkets. Messy displays with only a few of each type, and none of the size you need. I often wonder why.

J L have Petit Bateau knickers in stock on-line with free delivery.

lottiebunny · 19/05/2009 23:08

The individual store probably doesn't have its own stock control. The last time I worked in retail, all ordering was done at head office, and we got in whatever turned up. Frustrating for us that we could never tell customers what we were expecting and when we were expecting it and annoying for the customers that could never get hold of girls tights or whatever it was the computer had determined that month that we didn't need.

V. bad for John Lewis! I thought they cared about their customers

daisy99divine · 20/05/2009 01:38

Oh I am having pants issues too - none for DS for AGES - looking for 2-4

Twink · 20/05/2009 07:56

Another one who's dd was almost knickerless. No 11-12 year old stuff anywhere (other than hipsters which she loathes). I ended up managing to track some down in GAP.
