Who hit the woman who's now trying to make money out of it...

Started a thread on this earlier in the week and was very firmly 'on the side' of the PC.

I've mulled and mulled this over and have come to the conclusion that I don't want a policeforce that hits anyone (man or woman) for shouting at them.

I still think the woman involved must bear some responibility for what happended, I still beleive she was goading the policeman and did not back off when asked to. I also find it hard to blame the policeman entirely or want him lynched as others seem to, having been brought up to respect authority.

YABU to start another thread about it

I don't think she should bear any responsibility and you obviously do think that it was deserved in some way if you think she should.

It's like saying someone who is raped should bare some responsibility because tehy were wearing a short skirt IMO and you must know that is wrong.

The police are supposed to be able to withstand verbal provocation and keep order. It's their job. Lots of people - e.g. teachers, nurses and social workers - are goaded verbally regularly in their line of work but would be fired if they responded with physical aggression.

I agree beanie but such is my right to free speech

I think the rape analogy is a bit of a misnomer - having been a victim myself you don't place yourself in a position of vulnerability. I guess I'm still struggling with the repect for authority part, she didn't show any, was demonstrating and therefore placing herself in a position was violence was always going to be a possibility. But no I no longer think she asked for or deserved it in anyway which I think is what i possibly said before.
