to complain to Waitrose?

For selling out of date veg, picked up one of those pre packed peas and broccoli bags in the reduced section for dinner tonight.

When I got home and opened the pack it smelt horrible and I looked at use by date and it was 22nd March.

So AIBU to complain or should I have checked? Surely nobody would buy out of date veg.

I would complain, Waitrose are usually very very on the ball with their dates.

take it back - they will be mortified

I would take it back and complain, I do try and check use by/best before dates but supermarkets should be checking their stock as well.

I normally check too but I was in a rush on way back from nursery and just assumed that they wouldn't actually sell anything out of date, must have just been a mistake.

Do I need to go to the store do you think or would an email do the trick?

I think it is actually illegal to sell produce which has passed its use by date, whereas Best before is advisory.

Take it back. You will probably get a refund and a replacement.

Waitrose will be very apologetic. They are normally much better at customer service than other supermarkets. Go to the customer service desk and they will replace or reimburse without hesitation and will probably also offer you a goodwill gesture of some kind.

My mother used to work there.
