TeenyTinyToria · 27/01/2009 22:33

No, I quite like her actually. YABU.

AnyFucker · 27/01/2009 22:38

bloody great tits, that kate W

sphil · 27/01/2009 22:38

I find her immensely annoying!

RachePache · 27/01/2009 22:39

YANBU. I'd be more believing if she wore a Next dress to the Oscars.

Anglepoise · 27/01/2009 22:47

AIBU in thinking her new film looks beautifully-shot and incredibly dull?

Desiderata · 27/01/2009 22:51

I like her, although she does look completely different than she did during her Titanic days.

It's not that she's older .. it's just that her face is someone elses!

I was talking to a stunt man who worked on Titanic a couple of months ago. They auditioned the actresses for the lead part by making them wade around in a wet tank for an hour, to see how they looked!

That's how Kate got the part. She looked good wet

Apparently, she ran out of the audition room and jumped straight into his arms, and planted him a great bit sloppy kiss on the cheek.

Naturally, he's a bit of a fan!

pointydog · 27/01/2009 23:05

YANBU

She has gaspingly lost the plot

TeenyTinyToria · 27/01/2009 23:10

I think she seems fine. It must be very hard not to become a "star" when you are famous, and she has been quoted as saying that she never wanted fame, just success.

I don't ever want to be famous, I'm quite happy being an obscure little actor for my whole career. Fame unfortunately means that you are constantly over analysed and judged by people who don't know you as a person, and are hugely cynical of any claims to be "normal".

mileniwmffalcon · 27/01/2009 23:14

i really like her, think she's lovely. will never watch another film she's in though, she's the kiss of death as far as i'm concerned. films that look really very promising end up being shite, and i've found myself giving them the benefit of the doubt waaaay longer than i ever should, and end up losing full hours of my life that i'll never get back. holy smoke anyone?

OH, I liked her in The Holiday...but little children, well, I didn't like the movie, full stop...

anyhow, I do quite like her...

TeenyTinyToria · 27/01/2009 23:38

But dittany, what if you aren't attention seeking, but you love your job and you get offered great roles which have the unfortunate side effect of fame?

It annoys me that some people think that all actors are fame hungry wannabes who deserve all the slagging they can get. There are plenty of wannabes about, but few of them are serious actors.

twentypence · 27/01/2009 23:42

I saw her come out of Arrivals at LA airport. She let people take photos of her and her dd and then left. She smiled and was polite.

Jack Nicholson made a complete song and dance about trying to be normal (ie ran through the crowds to a waiting car knocking small children and old ladies like ten pin bowls).

She did come across as someone trying to be normal even though it's not normal to have 17 photographers chasing after you.

Her life hasn't been normal for so long she doesn't know what normal is. I think she means "normal" compared to some of the really bizarre things she has seen other actors do.

I think she has completely lost the plot and believes her own hype that she a very normal serious hardworking actress unaffected by fame

I would not be surprised if she had a team of writers deliver her a daily script of her life

Dh tells me, that He 'lost all respect for her, when she divorced Jim Threapleton.'

TeenyTinyToria · 28/01/2009 00:26

Well dh has directed me, and it's very difficult to keep work and home separate in that sort of case. I can imagine with a feature film, it would be all consuming.

I just don't want to get all judgey judgey about celebrities, because all we have to judge them on are their heavily edited public personas - they may be lovely or awful underneath.

TeenyTinyToria · 28/01/2009 00:35

I've just read the article as well, and I think Mendes is saying that he couldn't go home and say the things a husband would say "darling you're wonderful in that role" type stuff, because then it's weird to go on set and be critical and impartial the next day.

beanieb · 28/01/2009 01:09

She can't do right for doing wrong, can she?

None of us really know what her motivation is or why she wants to act so I think it's quite unfair to say she is desperate for attention when she works in a profession which automatically gets a lot of attention whether the actor wants it or not.

Some people enter the 'meeja' or entertainment business because they want to be a STAR and they want to be on the cover of every magazine, but a lot of people just want to have good roles and I guess they accept that being on the cover of magazines is all part of the profession, particularly when they have a responsibility to promote the films they're in!

And as for being photographed 'looking sexy' - what is wrong with that? Can't people be serious and sexy at the same time?

AnyFucker · 28/01/2009 07:19

that is no way her arse on that vanity fair shoot

airbrushed to all hell

normal ? nope

Lizzylou · 28/01/2009 07:23

I like her.
She is on magazine covers now as she has films out, is a bit of a cert for an oscar, so is hot property. She's been out of the limelight for a while.
I thought it was hilarious when she "forgot" Angelina, Angelina's face was a picture

touareg · 28/01/2009 09:09

YANBU. It is highly patronising if she seriously expects anyone to believe people in her position have a 'normal' life.

Fame - check
Money - check
Designer clothing - check
On magazine covers - check
Staff - check
Stylists - check
Multiple homes - check
Botox / surgery (probably) - check
That indefinable sleb thing where you are stick thin, perfectly bottle blonde and have perfect skin and make-up - check

Yeah right - very normal.
