To think we need to put a stop to the sock abuse in our house???

DH and I both like wearing plain black cotton socks.

When we first moved in together 12 years ago, DP (as he was then) used to borrow mine. Which was annoying as his feet are so much bigger than mine and there was never any socks left for me.

Then after we got married (6 years ago) he bought a whole load of socks and as mine were all worn out, I started wearing his.

He's never quite forgiven me for this.

Just before Christmas, I bought a whole load more socks with "Next" written on the soles. So it's really easy to see which are mine.

And he's still wearing them! His argument being that I've worn his for so long! Well, he started it...

Anyway. I think we need a sock amnesty and that he should stick to his own sock drawer.

YANBU.
I always steal dp's long thick sports socks when it is cold. I wouldn't want his stinky manky feet anywhere near mine.

Sock amnesty is a good idea though. We have a nose amnesty that works well (don't ask )

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/12/2008 12:16

Oh come off it, you think i won't ask about a nose amnesty???? What on earth???

LOL I always steal dps socks but he can't steal mine as my feet are tiny and his are huge! Plus i wear trainer socks and he wears huge great wooly jobs. Then again my feet are little enough to squeeze into my 4 year old ds's socks if need be.

Paperchase · 29/12/2008 12:17

One of you needs to go for a charcoal grey option. Or start sewing nametapes. Or hide your socks so he can't nab them.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/12/2008 12:19

We're both too stubborn to wear charcoal grey.

and there's so much more chance then that you can't find something which can pass as a matching pair.

Tesco do awesome socks which have coloured toes and heels and are lovely and cheap and easy to pair.

Failing that, tell him to get his paws off your socks!

TheChristmasArmadillo · 29/12/2008 12:19

The nose amnesty came about cos we used to try and creep up on the other person adn stick something up their nose. It got out of hand. We made an amnesty - it has never been broken. It works well. We can both now sleep free from the fear of waking up with something sticking out your nose

BlueSapphire77 · 29/12/2008 12:21

All the socks in the house belong to me.
He's just lucky i let him borrow the ones without holes in

My DP is supposed to live at his sisters so whenever we have a fallout and he goes back there, she ends up with all new socks. The cow.

sunnygirl1412 · 29/12/2008 12:22

TheSuburbanDryad has made my suggestion - though I would go one further and suggest that you get ones with bright primary colour heels and toes for your dh, and ones with pink/purple/girly colour heels and toes for yourself.

Failing that, hiding all your socks would appear to be your only option. Keep a few decoy pairs in the usual place, so he thinks he's still using your socks, and keep the real supply somewhere he'll never think to look.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 29/12/2008 12:23

"Then again my feet are little enough to squeeze into my 4 year old ds's socks if need be. "

LOL - me too - I have on numerous occasions been known to raid either DS1 or 2's sock drawer (I drawer the line at tryig to squeeze into DS3's toddler sock ) when my sock drawer is empty

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/12/2008 12:23

BlueSapphire, I think kidnapping your socks is appalling. Do you let him back after that???

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/12/2008 12:25

Sunnygirl, of course! Decoy socks! That's what I need

OP posts:
theSuburbanDryad · 29/12/2008 12:26

Sunnygirl is a genius! You definitely need decoy socks!

sunnygirl1412 · 29/12/2008 12:27

Sunnygirl smiles modestly.

theSuburbanDryad · 29/12/2008 12:28

If you Google images of decoy socks you just end up with loads of pictures of ducks?!

WTF?

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 12:30

i think you had better buy HIM some

i think this kind of situation is easy to build up and gets out of hand
i have been convinced for years that dp was stealing all my socks as i could never find any, despite buying more and more pairs
i then cleared out my drawers and found i had 38 and a half pairs of socks in there, approx 50% of which were dp's

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 29/12/2008 12:33

Franny, I'm impressed that you had 38 and a half pairs. Out of that many socks, i'd be surprised if we made 20 plus 20 odd ones.

I Am Not buying him socks though.

On secnd thoughts, I should have done that for chrsitmas shouldn't I

OP posts:
Paperchase · 29/12/2008 12:44

I don't think it's possible to have x pairs of socks in a house - you always have x½ pairs.

Franny is right - throw out ALL the socks. Buy some for you, and some for him, in different sizes.

sunnygirl1412 · 29/12/2008 12:48

I am very impressed at thirty eight and a half pairs of socks. It doesn't seem to matter how many pairs of socks I buy, there is always someone who has no socks at all - and that's despite the fact that dh, ds1 and ds2 are all wearing the same size socks so I buy lots of pairs and simply split them between the three sock drawers.

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 29/12/2008 12:50

TheChristmasArmadillo LOL at nose amnesty

BlueSapphire77 · 29/12/2008 12:56

Nope but its fun cos when i go to hers i claim them all back..you think i'm joking
She's lucky i have him back out from under her feet so the spoils of war are actually my socks lol

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 14:43

i had been buying them for years, as had dp, and we were both mystified as to where they were going

well I was
dp says he knew damn well I had them all hidden away somewhere

BlueSapphire77 · 29/12/2008 18:46

I think its great what things get discussed on MN

MerryMadMarg · 30/12/2008 14:48

You need to put some fragrance sachets in your drawer, something really feminine - which he will NOT want to have on him!!!

BlueSapphire77 · 30/12/2008 16:13

Lol that wouldn't stop my fella
His whiff soon overtakes anything i could use.. i suppose i'm just lucky his socks don't make their own way to the washing machine. Or should that be unlucky? Have to pick em up with BBQ tongs as it is.

Just brought lots of pink socks and had some fluorescent ones off my teenage daughter (bless) so might get away with it for a bit
