If I phoned my local radio station and begged them to stop their pm presenter saying was instead of were?

"If you was at school in this year..." he says

Every time. was was was.

It makes my toes curl and I have recently taken to chewing the steering wheel. Seriously. I have chipped a tooth or two.

I know I know I know, why don't I turn it off, but it plays a wide range of really fab music and I like it. Plus I don't really want to be the sort of person who would turn off the station because the presenter makes a habit of saying was instead of were.

But it is physically painful.

So. If I phoned the station and told them to tell him to sort it out - do you think he would, or would I just look like a nut with waaaaaaaaay too much time on my hands?

You must email - phoning would be dire because they record them and might use you in a comedy sketch later.

SlartyBartFast · 24/11/2008 21:51

I hate things like this, I get so irrationally irritated. You know one that gets me, people that say 'hung' instead of hanged when speaking (sadly) about suicide (dont ask) and also people who for some reason don't believe that you should actually use 'an' instead of 'a' in front of the word 'horrendous'. Maybe I should just go to pedants corner......

Hecate - ring or email, either way get this twerp to speak proper like!

smartiejake · 24/11/2008 22:07

When we were at school there was a radio one quiz phone in thing called "Is was and should of"

Our enraged English teacher made us all write letters to complain.

Think it must be where I got my pedant qualities from. I hate the was/ were thing too.

CuddlyToy · 24/11/2008 22:13

Yup do it! I've hear 'was' used instead of 'were' and it is just so WRONG!

Don't these people go to school??!!

nofunanymore · 24/11/2008 22:17

Cuddly, can I refer you to my thread about educational professionals and their use of grammar?!!! Hear so many of them saying 'I done', 'we seen', as well as 'we was'...

CuddlyToy · 25/11/2008 20:07

Oh gosh, then it's no wonder the people are speaking like this if they are actually taught it at school.

Double as I realise I typoed in my post...I've heard
