To ignore DP and answer the door?

I love halloween. I love giving kids sweets and pretending they're scary and nattering to their mums on the door step.

However, we live in a rough area and last year we had a lot of egging and 18-20 year old playboy bunnies and chavs turning up trick or treating and wanting money. We have a lot of rough kids in the area too.

DP is at work and he doesn't want me to answer the door as I'm in on my own but I REALLY want to. I don't see why the little shits should ruin it for the good kids and I think it's disheartening for them and ruins their fun if no one answers the door. Plus if I don't answer the door they'll probably egg it.

What d'ya think? I've bought the sweeties and chocolate already.

P,s I'm 23 but I'm quite girly and meak and not too good at defending myself.

Have you got a spyhole in your front door?

Then you can see if it's proper kids

If you haven't got a spyhole...you probably should - and not just for halloween!

RagingHormone · 31/10/2008 17:10

I've not got a spyhole but I might peep out of the blinds. It's a shame because we live in a nice street with nice kids but right next to a very bad estate.

ask yourself this RagingH - would you answer the door to a load of 18-20 year old chavs on any other night of the year if you were in on your own?! Probably not. DP only has your safety in mind!

Halloween is used by louts and yobs as a cover for all sorts of anti social and criminal behaviour. Personally I would shut the curtains and turn off all the lights!

hullygully · 31/10/2008 17:12

why?

stretchmarkSCREAM · 31/10/2008 17:13

yes

We live on a 'nice' road too - so nice that I thought I would put a pumpkin out this afternoon so that DS could get all excited. Anyway, some f**ckers(excuse me, but I am soooo cross) from the next door estate stamped on the pumpkin and then, because they didn't think I'd seen, have just come back with masks on doing trick or treat!!! So I have decided to go with you on this one, loobeylou.

Ok on to the next question, I need the light on to do my lesson plans and marking. Is this just asking for trouble? Will they get mad and egg if they see a light but get no answer?

Aw smelly!! Nasty little sods. One of those times you sort of blame the parents.

we have had eggs and ketchup and the like a couple of years ago. We ignore it. don't react, don't wash it off till next week, just let them see they don't bother you, or it could escalate. It's like school bullies, if they don't get a reaction, they go somewhere else.
