I have lived in the same place, with the same neighbours for 7 years, AIBU to expect them to speak to me if they have a problem rather than put in an official complaint about me and would it BU to put one in back?

You should complain about them smoking in the communal area its against the law if its enclosed area

I dont think your being unreasonable do you generally get on with your neighbours?

Lauriefairycake · 08/09/2008 16:09

I don't think you are being remotely petty, surely they are not allowed to smoke there - you absolutely should stop them.

I would be very surprised if it's the footballers mum whose put in a complaint - if you are sure it is her then i would pop a note through her door saying someone has put in a complaint about you and you know it can't be her as her son plays football in the communal area and asking her if she knows who it is so you can see if you can work something out.

sweetheart · 08/09/2008 16:10

Just a question, how do you know who put the complaint in? Unless you can be 100% certain who it was I would avoid doing anything which may cause agro. If you are annoyed about something wouldn't it be better to take the moral high ground and speak to them - like you wish they had done to you?

Easy to say I know - I would be tempted to take the petty option to BUT if you have to continue living there it's probably not the best idea.

Absolutly complain about the smoking. Totally unreasonable of your neighbours to be smoking in a communal area.

Fimbo · 08/09/2008 16:14

I think the easiest option would be to say nothing. Has a complaint been made against the other people with children too? Although I guess you will not know this as you got the call at work.

Very annoying though.

Is it a tenament close?

cupsoftea · 09/09/2008 09:56

yanbu - shocking - complain about the smoking in communal areas - they have no respect for the health of other people

snarky · 09/09/2008 09:57

I would vent on here and then say nothing, I think. I know you have grounds to complain about the smoking, and what's happening to you is bloody unfair - but the bloke sounds like a bit of a psycho, and I wouldn't want to start a war that could get ugly and frighten the children.
