...after nearly 2w on holiday with dh and 4 dcs in a lovely farmhouse i the dordogne I am SO CRAVING an hour to myself it's unreal !

In the evenings we chat over the wine after dcs are in bed - lovely - but at times i just want to tune out/read novels/come on here and dh just won't bloody go in another room or even sit quietly on an armchair without asking every 5 mins what are you looking at what's that etc....

Personally, I don't think this is unreasonable. I like a lot of time to myself to read, etc. Fortunately, I have no DH to annoy me

Would he be really horribly hurt if you asked for an hour on your own?

Failing that, how about declaring a headache and carting yourself off to bed to read for an hour?

YANBU at all. DH and I agree that we feel better for a little time out (an hour to read a book or with an MP3 player on or whatever).

Thanks for helping me feel a little less unreasonable ! had to cut short op as he came into the room...what are you looking at etc ?

YANBU at all. I also have a DH who appears unable to amuse himself at times.

ChippyMinton · 22/08/2008 13:19

YANBU - that would drive me nuts too.

TBH, its what holds our marriage together! We spend most evening not speaking to each other! It means that when we are together, we have lots to talk about and actually enjoy each others company.

Egg · 22/08/2008 13:21

I always go up to bed about an hour before DH so I can read just to have some "time out". I get really narked off if he comes to bed too early!

OrmIrian · 22/08/2008 13:22

Not unreasonable at all.

Which is exactly why I'm taking my running shoes on holiday tomorrow!

He needs a good book.
