It’s 3 days, not 3 months! Some people are clueless and thick

Live opposite a couple with their teenage son. Yesterday as washing up, looked up randomly as you do. Saw the three of them carrying 4 packs of 24 rolls EACH! So 288 loo rolls. So are they going to use 1 and a third rolls each per hour in the 72 hour period? Or around 4.5 sheets per min.

God there are some very thick people about

What?

HoraceCope · Today 08:16

i expect they had a deal
it is not nice to call your neighbours thick

Zippidydoodah · Today 08:17

It’s just like Covid, isn’t it? I wonder how long until the shelves are bare 😢

Charming 😁

Mulledjuice · Today 08:18

when people are paying £100 for 24 Andrex who'll be the thick one?

moominontherun · Today 08:19

Someone probably thought the same of me with my toilet rolls this weekend but I was buying some for my Rainbows to wrap each other up as mummies for our Halloween party. Then it gets torn up and reused as snow at the Christmas party!

Sherararara · Today 08:20

You aren’t wrong. As evidenced on here by all the many threads and bizarre responses.
Wind up radios must all be sold out now. Never mind that a battery powered one and a couple of AA batteries will last a month.
People rushing out to buy tins of sardines. Do you eat sardines? Well no, but apparently that’s the only tinned food available.
It demonstrates just how limited critical thinking is in most people. That’s the real scary thing, never mind WW3.

LlamasDramas · Today 08:21

At least you know your neighbours won't be the ones ransacking the shops for toilet paper if disaster arises!

Better to be prepared than not. They sound sensible. You sound more thick than they do with your judgement.

HoraceCope · Today 08:22

@Sherararara
how do you know people are rushing out to buy sardines?
that is a strange comment.

plus, many of us have already stocked up on sardines Wink

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · Today 08:22

Three days?
Eh?
There days for what?

HoraceCope · Today 08:22

have you got your radio/charger/torch ? @Sherararara

mindutopia · Today 08:23

Are they possibly just stocking up? We have a business and Dh goes to do a shop for the business every few weeks. When he does, he stock up on bulk items for the house at the same time. So massive bundles of loo roll, packs of 6 hand soaps, huge bags of dishwasher tablets. We aren’t prepping. We’re just buying in bulk.

That said, I am a little bit of a stockpiler and I can’t say toilet roll has ever been something that worried me. If war breaks out and the economic system grinds to a halt, I need the medicines that keep me alive (I maintain a 3 month stock at all times) and food, water, gas for cooking. I don’t need loo roll. 😂

Diddledeedo · Today 08:23

Oh this made me think I need more loo roll

HairReplacementTherapy · Today 08:23

How do you know that's what they've got them for and that they're all for them? You're winding yourself about a scenario that you don't even know is real!

MagnoliaParks · Today 08:23

Given it’s Halloween, I would have assumed the toilet paper was for that before it was for stocking up.

But we generally have 50-75 rolls of toilet roll in stock at home for two people (we get who gives a crap and re order when the cupboard is about half full) - it just makes sense to have plenty in stock and we got all the way through lockdown without needing to buy any toilet roll.

As I explained clearly in my response,
via the multiple comments by people stating they have rushed out to buy sardines.

what are you rushing out to buy?

HappyAsASandboy · Today 08:25

I order my loo rolls in this quantity all the time. Restock 3 bathroom cupboards and then don’t think about toilet rolls for a while.

You may also see me buying 14 cans of beans/tomato soup/boxes of passata. Not because I am stockpiling, but because I like to get them at Aldi and I don’t go there very often. I also get occasional deliveries from Tesco primarily to bring 8-12 large washing powder boxes (though I’ll order other things too). Not stockpiling, just ordering the things I don’t want to carry in bulk to minimise the delivery charge.

People stock their houses in different ways to you. Doesn’t mean it is a reaction to the instruction to carry 3 days of extra food. Sometimes it is just how people shop Smile

HoraceCope · Today 08:25

there is plenty of tinned food in my local tescos, no issues at all

BitOutOfPractice · Today 08:26

At least you’ll know who to kill for toilet paper when the end days come.

I’ve put some tinned mandarins on my shop this week. I don’t normally eat them. Am I thick too?

Sherararara · Today 08:27

HoraceCope · Today 08:24

what are you rushing out to buy?

Nothing. As I am already prepped and always have been. For more than 3 days. 3 days is basic household management and shouldn’t even be something people need to be told to do.
Wait for next year when the government update the advice to a week.
