It’s 3 days, not 3 months! Some people are clueless and thick

Live opposite a couple with their teenage son. Yesterday as washing up, looked up randomly as you do. Saw the three of them carrying 4 packs of 24 rolls EACH! So 288 loo rolls. So are they going to use 1 and a third rolls each per hour in the 72 hour period? Or around 4.5 sheets per min.

God there are some very thick people about

I was about to say I wasn't aware of anybody actually running out of loo roll during COVID, but this thread has made me truly thankful the loo roll hoarders of 2020 never found me to be smug to... Good grief!

Does anyone know the best and cheapest place to bulk buy loo roll from? I am forever running out (completely missing point of thread too I realise)?

A Google search will help you with online suppliers but it usually means you'll end up on Amazon. If you want to shop in person the best value (quality for money spent) is Aldi premium, 12 pack, 320 sheets per roll for £4.99.

FYI there's a global shortage of sardines due to a number of factors in Morocco. It has nothing to do with panic buying.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of this. Didnt make sense as why mackerel was still available. 😁

Clarefromwork · Today 10:38

Its a new campaign not new advice. Didn’t they rename it from “Prepare” to “Be ready” so it’s had more attention recently because of this?

MadMAGA · Today 10:39

I thought mackerel had gone because they're over-fished.

You need to check if it's mackerel, or chilean jack mackerel. Different fish, second one is not a mackerel (contrary to its name)

I was only smug to DH because of his prior teasing, not to the people who needed it, honest.

Maybe they're just bulk shoppers anyway. My family goes through a 24 pack in a week, do I often buy multiples.

How much?! I use about one a week, and I have IBS. What are they doing with it?!

Celer · Today 10:43

Never mind wind up radios, this is a wind up poster! One post and runs, leaving MN with another bickering preppers vs.’the whole thing is nonsense’ brigade argument thread.

nam3c4ang3 · Today 10:43

WTF - has something happened that i dont know about?! First that lady who was trying to figure out what to do with herself and her kids with the 1 hour time difference. Then now the toilet paper thing. Has something changed?!

Portmore · Today 10:43

The Waitrose & sainsburys near me lost power due to the storm & were completely closed. All the fresh stock was thrown away.
Reopened today with hardly anything on the shelves.

The sensible people who bought an extra few items before the weekend were probably feeling very smug watching the anti stock piling brigade battle the fallen trees on the roads to get to the next town for their shopping

nam3c4ang3 · Today 10:43

Ah.... schools out.

Correct Prepare was launched May 2024.
Subsequent surveys have shown that more than half of the general public were oblivious. So they have been nudging and then relaunching the campaign in an attempt to try and up engagement.

Currently almost every supermarket has good offers on toilet rolls. Morrisons was almost impossible to navigate on Saturday morning due to the huge displays over flowing from end of isle sections. It is almost like the Government, supermarkets and manufacturers have been working together.

This.

I love sardines and usually get them in spring water ( because then I can share them with DGcat when he comes to stay) but they have been in really short supply for weeks.

I looked it up and found what you said about the supply shortage but apparently exacerbated by a social media trend. Various influencers on TikTok or wherever bigging up sardines and therefore causing a surge in demand.

You can still get them in olive oil or tomato sauce or sometimes just in brine, but the ones just in spring water seems to have disappeared completely

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle? Ever heard of it?

Yes, I am a Guide leader and wouldn't dream of wasting bog roll like this. We have a big bag of rags (lots of worn out school and work shirts that are unsellable) that we use for these sorts of activities. .

housethatbuiltme · Today 10:53

Why did toilet paper become the 'necessity' during Covid?

Like do we not remember the days of public toilet paper that was basically a square of grease paper or sometimes literally 10p pick and mix bag, has no one here been poor enough to use the yellow pages in an emergency.

If the world ended you could wipe your ass on virtually anything, it not life or death.

Of all the things you could need in an apocalypse toilet paper is very low on the list, its pretty much a luxury item and yes a one most people are quite use to but you would think water, food or medicine would be more important stockpile if your a 'prepper'.

marblyarch · Today 10:55

Reminded me of this from 2020

What’s happening in 3 days?

This is behaving im wondering

MagicMelanie · Today 11:10

Who has space for 288 loo rolls?

I have a small spare bedroom which I use for storage. Plenty of room in there for a few bogrolls! It's full of all sorts of stuff I buy in bulk. Beans/pulses/tomatoes/shampoo/soap/everythingelsethatwon'tspoil.
I'm not prepping as such. I suppose I'm satisfying my tendency towards hoarding by using one small room of the house. And saving a significant amount of money to boot.

MagicMelanie · Today 11:19

You only use 2 rolls weekly?? Between 5 of you??

I'd add prunes to my shopping list.

MagicMelanie · Today 11:20

She stayed with us for a few weeks and I couldn't believe the rate we went through it. Almost a roll a day. I still have no clue what she was doing to use it up so quickly

Maybe she has gut issues. Some people do.

How does it affect you? Like, what's the issue? Why does it bother you so much? Do you not have anything worthwhile to watch and get worked up over!? So what if they buy in bulk!? Who cares! (Apart from you, obviously).

AngelaBB · Today 11:22

It’s not thick, it’s selfish. Loads of people were doing it during lockdown. They know. Exactly what they’re doing and they are not the only ones.
