It’s 3 days, not 3 months! Some people are clueless and thick

Live opposite a couple with their teenage son. Yesterday as washing up, looked up randomly as you do. Saw the three of them carrying 4 packs of 24 rolls EACH! So 288 loo rolls. So are they going to use 1 and a third rolls each per hour in the 72 hour period? Or around 4.5 sheets per min.

YABU to start yet ANOTHER thread about this! Hmm

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · Today 09:01

It may be they are all going to a Halloween party as 'Mummies' and the toilet paper is to simulate bandages? It's a lot cheaper than actual bandages although they will have to hope that it isn't raining.

Who should surely reinforce good practice?
or does she Rainbows handbook say you can do what you want as your aren’t a teacher?

Edited

She did say that they were using it for 2 activities, so tear it up after using it for mummies, so is reusing (which is more uses than you do when using it as toilet roll)

It will settle down after the current panic subsides.

it’s not really surprising that even these low key announcements have fed paranoia.

Ucantfixstupid · Today 09:03

It's cheaper to buy in bulk. I do that with the necessities, it's kinda common sense (if you have the storage space).

What have i missed?

Somebody being nosy and monitoring her neighbour's shopping!

MeowDoku · Today 09:06

Don't most people have 3 days worth of food and water in their house anyway? I'm not talking about people on the bones of their arses because they are not the people stockpiling either

You aren’t wrong. As evidenced on here by all the many threads and bizarre responses.
Wind up radios must all be sold out now. Never mind that a battery powered one and a couple of AA batteries will last a month.
People rushing out to buy tins of sardines. Do you eat sardines? Well no, but apparently that’s the only tinned food available.
It demonstrates just how limited critical thinking is in most people. That’s the real scary thing, never mind WW3.

Thanks you have actually shaken me out of my panic. Wind up radios take ages. A battery operated one last weeks. Going to get myself a little cheap radio.
I have enough battery torches to light up the London eye!!!!

@fld probably sits all day every day at her winning scorning, ridiculing, judging. Alone

NetZeroZealot · Today 09:13

Well Waitrose has sold out of long-life milk, bottled water and some types of battery round me. So there's a bit of panic buying going on....

The government hasn't managed this very well.

Maybe they got a deal, or perhaps thats how they shop. You don't sound very nice tbh.

I don't have bottled water generally other than one 2 litre bottle in the car, but we do have a brita jug that's kept full, a bottle of coke in the cupboard, a bottle of other juice and one of cloudy apple in the fridge, we wouldn't die of thirst

I buy lots of sardines regularly as they’re a treat for the dog. Cats love them too so people are probably buying them for pets. Also, tinned Sardines have had a supply issue for the past 3 months so it’s likely that people are selfishly stockpiling them in case they go out of supply again. If so, it’s nothing to with the 3 day advice

I always buy my loo roll in bulk from amazon. Maybe they are the same and just buy 3 months on one go.

We’re a family of five. 48 rolls of loo paper lasts us 6 months …

Theyve got enough loo roll for three YEARS 🤣

You only use 2 rolls weekly?? Between 5 of you??

We use more than that for 3 of us! 48 would last us 4-5 months...

Seziah · Today 09:20

Is there not a chance that they will perhaps use at least some of these loo rolls instead of storing them indefinitely 🤔. This would’ve been such a non issue a few weeks ago and now we’re policing people’s shopping. I bulk buy cat food, is that also not allowed because I’m only supposed to have three days worth of everything. I hope no one sees me buying giant boxes of pads because they last more than one period

nomdegrrr1 · Today 09:23

Yeah, I've had those sort of looks when I've gone a bit nuts, though, to be fair, I get through a lot of loo roll. I think I may have bought nearly that quantity when there was a good deal on discounted rolls at Approved Food, years ago, and while it lasted for ages, it all got used.

It's just that when I see a good deal on anything I commit. For example, there was a deal on gluten free pasta and I bought ten packs, or around two or three months worth. There aren't many deals on gluten free stuff, so I jumped in. Trust me, it won't go to waste. I go in hard for stuff we use with long shelf lives that we use all the time. The rule I stick to is that you only get what you can use before it expires. Loo roll doesn't expire.

If they're not harming anyone, and they're not asking you to pay their rent, let them have the peace of mind of a stock of loo roll. Checking on everyone else is bad for your blood pressure.

AralVorkosigan · Today 09:23

We got snide comments from a neighbour last week, who walked past as we were unpacking our tins, toilet roll etc and assumed that we were stockpiling. It was a totally standard Costco run. We have the space, so choose to buy in bulk.

FWIW I was in Costco last week, Sainsbury’s over the weekend and tescos first thing this morning, and haven’t seen any shortages or empty shelves.

So I’m not sure that the panicky posts on social media (including here) are representative of the actual public panic buying stuff.

Catza · Today 09:26

I have 1,5 rolls and I expect this will last me 3 days. Although, I am not wondering if I should top up sooner rather than later if everyone else are stripping supermarket shelves. And therein lies the problem....

FOJN · Today 09:27

How do you know they are panic buying? If I see a good deal I bulk buy, nothing is getting cheaper. If you were to visit my house right now you"d think I was a tinned tomato snob who did nothing but drink yorkshire tea and use the loo.
