It’s 3 days, not 3 months! Some people are clueless and thick

Live opposite a couple with their teenage son. Yesterday as washing up, looked up randomly as you do. Saw the three of them carrying 4 packs of 24 rolls EACH! So 288 loo rolls. So are they going to use 1 and a third rolls each per hour in the 72 hour period? Or around 4.5 sheets per min.

God there are some very thick people about

Why should a Rainbows’ leader be teaching the 3 Rs

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

gullgal · Today 11:41

I randomly bought three big packs of loo rolls lately, not because of why emergency planning but just to have them in. I do a lot of small local shops on foot and not so many big shops so decided to stock up. Am I thick?

You aren’t wrong. As evidenced on here by all the many threads and bizarre responses.
Wind up radios must all be sold out now. Never mind that a battery powered one and a couple of AA batteries will last a month.
People rushing out to buy tins of sardines. Do you eat sardines? Well no, but apparently that’s the only tinned food available.
It demonstrates just how limited critical thinking is in most people. That’s the real scary thing, never mind WW3.

And people in general not just on here. There has been a serious crime committed in the city I live in, it has made the national news. There have been arrests and to date one person has been charged and remanded in custody. Of course the remand hearing was at the Magistrates court but the average idiot reading this has assumed that the person has been tried and sentenced and there is a storm of outrage that the case hasn't gone to Crown! No understanding of the basic court processes and even more worrying no ability to read and comprehend a brief and factual news item which actually stated the date of the next court hearing and that it would be in the Crown court. I find it mind boggling that people really think an offence can be committed, arrests made, a trail held and the defendant sentenced all in a couple of weeks

MagicMelanie · Today 11:49

What??? We don't go through anywhere near that amount. I buy six rolls a month for four of us!

Depending on your metabolism you can need to use toilet paper 3 times a day or twice a week. Both are in the normal range. It's not surprising that some individuals use significantly more than others.

Is tp new MN chicken🙈

SapphireSeptember · Today 11:55

My radio takes batteries, need to buy some!

Lifenov86 · Today 11:56

I would assume they are on offer somewhere. I regularly bulk buy things like loo roll and washing powder when it’s on a good offer. Silly not to if you have space and spare cash

XenoBitch · Today 12:00

DM dropped off 96 rolls for me the other day. Nothing to do with prepping.

Maybe they bought them when they were on offer.

Yep, I know someone who is brilliant at finding bulk buying bargains, and couponing. Nothing to do with prepping at all... she just loves a bargain.
Her place will be the one to raid if the shit hits the fan 😂

JustAnotherWhinger · Today 12:02

You’d have been judging everyone in our village this weekend then.

For some reason one of the shop had a massive overstock of toilet rolls and was selling 24 packs of nice roll for £2.50. I don’t think I saw anyone with less 4 leaving the shop.

Lots of people stock up when things are on offer. There are 7 of us in our house but we only buy toilet rolls three times a year because of how we shop. We have the space to store it and it works for us.

How unhappy must be for someone to wake up on a Monday and start this kind of thread

TeenLifeMum · Today 12:34

I get a giant box of loo roll on subscription and it lasts ages. Spare goes in the garage. It’s cost effective. Maybe they had an offer on or they own a hotel and the delivery didn’t come. I’m always baffled when people notice this stuff, but I’m very unobservant.

we’re a house of teens and the cupboards are either full or empty with no middle ground. The more I buy the more they seem to eat so I’m not sure I can stockpile effectively.

6 rolls a MONTH? are you doing the Asda double rolls? How on earth do 4 of you only use that amount?!

No hate, genuine curiosity 😂we get through tons but I do think my tween uses most of it.

I think @newrubylane and her family need more fibre in their diet! 😬

FoldItIn · Today 12:46

I swear to God if you all start buying my tinned pears and pineapple I will be fuming.

Family of 4 with lots of visitors, we use one loo roll per day FYI.

trotterstrot · Today 12:47

Nothing. As I am already prepped and always have been. For more than 3 days. 3 days is basic household management and shouldn’t even be something people need to be told to do.
Wait for next year when the government update the advice to a week.

A preppers gloat gleaming from behind the keyboards...! I used to hang out for a while on Prepper boards/fora during the pandemic - for a bit of timepass - and oh the gloat the gloat!

Offtoday · Today 12:48

I reckon preppers hope for something horrific to befall the world so they can be smug.

For a week.

QueefofSheena · Today 12:53

There are various tiktok trends featuring sardines apparently, according to my offspring. This is also causing supply issues

Discosnake · Today 13:11

It's not the thought of war causing panic buying. It's realising tiktok is about to make your food considerably more expensive😂

I just googled the sardine trend...

MrsPernicious · Today 13:14

Cucumbers last year, sardines this year.
What food do we think tiktok will take on next year?

LilyBunch25 · Today 13:15

PoliteGreyDreamer · Today 10:32

I do feel there is some exaggerating going on here.

There are multiple headlines about wind-up radios running out. When I Google that loads come up as in stock, including some for a little more than £10 on Amazon. You would be much harder pressed to find a portable air con unit, despite it being October.

When the COVID toilet paper panic hit, the big toilet paper subscribers (Who Gives a Crap) stopped taking orders except for existing customers. That simply hasn't happened yet.

I'm not convinced batteries are an issue either. I saw some in the supermarket yesterday afternoon (I was buying a birthday cake for a relative) and they were available to select in my online ASDA order too.

Yes, fully agree. I needed batteries recently and not only were there loads available there were plenty of offers on in Sainsburys/Argos and elsewhere. In fact I was spoilt for choice!

TofuTuesday · Today 13:18

I have so much loo roll tbh. I’m going to mark it up and retire if we have a shortage. We get it delivered and I’ve never adjusted the amount. Kitchen roll otoh, goes in a day if I buy it.

I dare them homemade sauerkraut.

Wait. no. I like it.

Rakfisk?

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · Today 13:55

Maybe they just went Costco and got an offer.

Urgentbiscuitrequired · Today 13:56

They had some good deals on in Tesco recently and I got a couple of large packs. Not because of stockpiling, but because it is cheap and a was a very good deal.

I'm really interested in knowing how you can read people's minds OP?
