This is what my ex said to me earlier when discussing potentially getting back together.

He said either I come home or I sit alone in my house forever.

Also we’ve only recently been talking again and ex wanted things to accelerate, I told him that I’m not comfortable yet and can we slow things down especially as things were recently nasty between us. He said I’ve fucked everything up now and that he’s offering me everything back, he’s doing all the work and that now I need to prove to him that I want to come back.

What are everyone’s thoughts??

After two long and good relationships, single and living alone is the happiest, most peaceful and most fulfilled I've ever been. 12.5 years and counting and I'm never going back.

Don't let him get in your head - you don't need to prove anything to him. Let him go and be happy and fully yourself.

My mum went back to my dad after divorce. It essentially ruined her life. He carried on being abusive. Drinking. Little respect. No interest in the kids. She regretted it. Do better if you possibly can.

If you fancy a life of misery -stay.
If you fancy a life of peace, freedom and fulfillment -leave.

Even that language/terminology makes me say run!! You are better off without him by the sounds of it!

So in all seriousness I think he is playing on my insecurities where he knows I have elderly parents and he knows I fear being alone when they pass.

You don't have to be alone to feel lonely, and I think if you go back to him you run the risk of a very lonely future.

Obviously you would choose living alone rather than being tied to him for any length of time.

I always remember the stats about life expectancy at times like this. Married men live longer then single men on average. Married women live shorter then single women on average. So men generally get more out of having a partner then women do.

You don't have to stay single forever, but you don't have to go back to him either. Or the cats. There's always the cats.

With that pitch I doubt he is working in sales. Way to lift you up! He's suggesting you can't make friends or ever meet someone. He's suggesting that, should you not comply exactly with him he doesn't want any sort of relationship. It's kind of an insult and threat combined.
Says to me that this is how he intends to keep dealing with you whichever way you go.

My friend finally got a gorgeous dog, total rockstar when she is out and about.

Don't go back - being single can be immensely liberating and fulfilling. Don't even think of going back to someone who thinks he can will you into a life of lonely solitude.

Couldnt agree more! I’d rather be single but realistically they’ll meet someone new eventually (hopefully having learnt types to avoid). Men can be like toddlers - go back and after next split he’ll be even more persistent as hell have learnt it worked. Already showing nasty side again. Go watch some Matthew Hussey stuff - all about the self esteem.
