To think that this menu isn’t suitable for children?

A few months ago I booked to take my children to Matilda in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall this month (October), I had to book hospitality tickets because those were the only tickets left at the time of booking. And then today have been sent an email with the hospitality details and this is the menu! They don’t have a separate children’s menu either even though Matilda is a family event! AIBU to think this menu isn’t suitable for children? My children have autism and are very fussy so the only thing that they will eat on this menu will be the desserts but even then I don’t think there’s much on this menu that most neurotypical children would eat either? In my opinion it’s not suitable for families or children even though it’s supposed to be a family event!

I’ve copied and pasted the menu below incase the image doesn’t work:

Snacks (served pre-show):
Black garlic polenta crackers

Seaweed tapioca crackers

Canapés (served pre-show):
Glazed beef skewer, chimichurri

Parmesan churros, tomato and Parmesan sauce (V)

Cold Bowl (served pre-show):

Pumpkin seed houmous, maple-roast pumpkin, pomegranate, pickled pumpkin ribbons, mint oil

Sliders (served pre-show):
28-day dry-aged beef patty, crispy bacon, tarragon and chive aioli, confit garlic,
served with potato hash puffs, truffle mayo

Moroccan-Spiced lamb slider, grilled onions, sumac mayonnaise & pickled cucumber,
served with buffalo cauliflower

Dessert canapés (served during the interval):
Mango, passion fruit, coconut pavlova

Millionaire's chocolate mousse, salted caramel, vanilla sablé

Milk and Cookies

Drinks:

Trebbiano, Rubicone, Novità
Sangiovese, Rubicone, Novità
Estrella Galicia 4.7%
Ginger bitters (soft cocktail)
Sparkling mineral water
Still mineral water

What is on the menu?

Kepler22B · 21/10/2026 18:19

Hard to judge without the menu.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 21/10/2026 18:19

Can't see the menu?

Children or not, I think that’s a poor menu - why so much red mean? And i agree that a lot of children wouldn’t find something they’d enjoy.

neilyoungismyhero · 21/10/2026 18:21

I agree.

sillylittlerabbit · 21/10/2026 18:22

The thing is, hospitality packages aren’t really aimed at families with children; it’s usually corporates and adults and this is their standard offer. Email them and see if they can substitute other items.

AtIusvue · 21/10/2026 18:22

There’s burgers, crackers and cheesy churros. Most children would be perfectly happy with that.

Surely as a parent with children who have particular food sensitivities, you would factor this in and arrange to take something with you?

Mummyofabear · 21/10/2026 18:22

I’m not sure if the image uploaded but I’ve tried to post it again in this comment.

I can see the menu.
My two NT children would eat most of that, my autistic child wouldn’t as he has ARFID.
I guess it would be helpful to see the menu before booking so you can decide whether to book or not.

AnnaMagnani · 21/10/2026 18:23

Picture is up - It's cheesy nibbles, humous, posh burgers, pavlova, chocolate mousse and biscuits. Only written in restaurant speak.

JoyousWriter · 21/10/2026 18:23

What's wrong with those choices?

Besidemyselfwithworry · 21/10/2026 18:24

My kids would eat any of that but then they eat absolutely anything which I appreciate isn’t the case for all kids neurodivergent or neurotypical- I’d send them an email and ask them if they can accommodate a differnt request - look at the website see what else is on offer and ask for that maybe?

Holeymoley28 · 21/10/2026 18:24

My children would eat at least some of that.

I reckon people who tend to boom such seats with hospitality would be people that eat those foods.

Hardly going to be serving up nuggets and chips.

pinkglove84 · 21/10/2026 18:24

Burgers and cheesy churros followed by pavlova or chocolate mousse, then milk and cookies?!

You can't get much more suitable for children then burgers followed by cookies surely. I'm baffled.

For me the menu would be a bit meaty though. A veggie burger alternative would be good.

Owhatfuckeryisthis · 21/10/2026 18:25

Depends on the kids. 2 of mine would have scarfed the lot, one would pick out the puffs and hummus, one would have eaten all the meat. Puddings sound fine. My nieces would cry.
If your kids dont fancy it, i can be on the train tout suite.

boredandgrand · 21/10/2026 18:25

My kids would eat all of that as would I.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/10/2026 18:26

I don’t really get the idea that food is age specific. It’s a very British concept. If you know your children are very particular I’d have asked about the options before booking. Mine are vegetarian and it looks like the non meat option is hummus which they’d enjoy.

What sort of thing were you hoping for?

NetballHoop · 21/10/2026 18:27

Apart from some more soft drinks choices I think it's fine.

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/10/2026 18:28

looks delicious. My children would have eaten the burger and cheese straws. I don’t think it is as fancy as it soundsz. Although I can it could be a problem
if your DCs like only plain pasta and chicken nuggets. Perhaps give them a calL and request the plain pasta or whatever it is they like.

Overthebow · 21/10/2026 18:29

They’ve worded it in a fancy way, not surprising because of the venue, but it’s crackers and cheesy churros, burgers, pudding then milk and cookies. Most kids would eat that.

Tryagain26 · 21/10/2026 18:30

It looks ok for children to me. But I think there should be more vegi options

LampLightz · 21/10/2026 18:31

Crackers, burgers, kebabs, chocolate mousse and milk and cookies would be enjoyed by a huge amount of children I think?

Well now you know for next time that’s it’s not necessary to comment this and you just need to wait a moment or two.

Meand2Ls · 21/10/2026 18:32

I mean burgers, cheese pastries, hummus, chocolate moose, cookies my kids would be in heaven. Back in my early 20s I done a lot of events hospitality at concerts, football stadiums etc. it was always just one option it’s very standard
