Deal or no Deal

A couple of weeks ago I did something stupid and ordered what looked like a beautiful shirt on-line. The price was originally shown in pounds but when I came to pay it was in USD. I hesitated but went ahead.

There was no size guide on the website, but being a UK10 I thought a medium would be a fairly safe bet.
When the shirt arrived it was way too small and had a very obvious fault In its construction.

Back to their website to arrange a refund.
The company responded with two alternatives;

  1. pay them another $45 dollars and get a replacement or
  2. accept a 15% refund. Obviously there was no way I’m accepting either alternative, so their current offer is to keep the bloody shirt and accept a 50% refund. Their position is that they didn’t charge delivery so I should pay for it now. So, clever, sensible sisters, do I accept the deal, never buy anything online or from USA again, or do I fight on?

Oops, that should say I’m a size 12. A bit of wishful thinking there.

How much did you pay?
I’m guessing it’s one of the crap sites that ship from China.

I would take the 50% refund and then sell the shirt on eBay or vinted.

ColdAsAWitches · 19/10/2026 18:00

Very well known scam. There's hundreds of similar sites, all relying on it not being worth the return charges to china.

Waitingfordoggo · 19/10/2026 18:03

Yes this is really common and why we should all read the delivery and returns info before buying. It’s especially common with ‘companies’ who advertise on FB (and presumably other social media but that’s the only one I use).

Sorry you got stung OP 😕 I would just accept whatever refund is offered and give it to a charity shop, or try and sell it on Vinted.

Thank you - it’s good to see you all agree.
I’ll definitely not fall into that trap again, and when (if) I get my $45 back they’ll be getting a stinging review.

Charity shops don’t want this poor quality merchandise. They can’t sell it locally and it isn’t even appropriate to ship to other locations. It costs them money to send it to the landfill.

Always do a search for TrustPilot reviews before pressing 'buy' These have saved me a couple of times. 🙂
