To think that M&S are taking the mickey?

Waiting to collect someone from an appointment and have nipped into m&s cafe for a quick coffee while waiting. They have relabelled all their scones as "giant" scones - they're exactly the same size they always were, and where I live, they're definitely on the small side compared to the independent cafes!

AIBU to ask them what the difference is between their old scones and the giant ones (NB there are no non-giant ones on offer)?

Disgraceful 😉

I'll hazard a guess - the price.

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 11:47

You should ask.

I’d love a scone now Sad

I love a cheese scone but last few times they’ve been rock hard and when I asked if they could be heated up in microwave was told no due to cross contamination? So not bothered since ! And they deffo weren’t giant

OMG what a disaster

Apparently they are 10% larger than before 🤔 I don't think that's enough of an increase in size to be "giant" though!

They also have magic coffee in the food hall, but it’s not fucking magic at all!! It’s just coffee.

It totally isn't! Giant to me means way bigger than normal. I'd not have really thought about it if they'd labelled them large even, but giant they are not.

And yes, rock hard and they won't heat them, so definitely won't be having one again.

I hate big, oversized Americanised pastries and cakes we get in cafes these days.

Huge, inflated croissant with filling oozing out and loads of stuff stuck on it. I think M&S is forced to make these marketing changes because young people like Americanised food.

I sometimes get a teacake which they toast for me. Though haven't had one lately. Maybe that has gone.

But the point is they're not particularly big, just fairly normal scone size.

No, teacakes are fine, the couple in front of me got teacakes and they were toasted. Maybe that's a different gadget though?

I do wonder what has happened to the regular scones in store. I suspect they’ve shrunk making the new “giant” scone much bigger comparatively. Bastards. I do like a cafe grudge though I’ve not been to Starbucks since the 90s when they stopped toasting bagels in the panini press.
