Help me find my Mum’s cat!

She’s almost 2, not shy at all, chipped and neutered.

She hasn’t been seen in 6 weeks.

My Mum is disabled so can’t go out to look for her and she’s devastated. We live on the same estate, I’ve been out shaking treats and calling for her. We’ve left her blankets outside my Mum’s front door. We’ve called the local vets, the microchip company.

I’ve posted multiple times in the estate group chat asking for people to check sheds and garages, also on the local and surrounding areas Facebook pages and on the Next Door app, I’m posting weekly with photos.

Any stories of hope after this long? Any tips to help get her home? Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry OP, that is stressful. My cat once went missing for a few days and I went around the garages of our estate shaking a packet of dreamies and calling for him. I heard a plaintive meow from a neighbour’s garage - silly bugger had gone into it via an old cat flap and couldn’t figure his way back out again! Neighbour let him out but was equally mystified as the cat flap was in perfect working order. Cat just panicked I assume and laid low. Might be worth trying though 6 weeks is quite long.

I would try to have a positive attitude here but it sounds like you’ve done everything reasonably possible. Cats have great navigation and if they lived in that house for a while they know where home is.

This next tip sounds crazy and is crazy, but there’s an old wives tale of asking another cat to find your missing cat. You go up to another cat on the estate and just talk to them softly telling them your cats name and what they look like and please go find them. I have 2 cats and another time my escape artist went missing I kept his brother inside for days while I searched. One day I let him out and said go find your brother. Shit you know his brother ran into the door an hour later.

Appreciate the above is completely crazy but when you’ve done everything you can from a practical standpoint it can’t hurt.

I'm really sorry about your Mum's cat. It's really upsetting. It sounds as though you have done all the right things.
I had a wee cat many years ago. And she went missing for a couple of weeks. I roamed round the area calling her name every day. And one evening she just appeared from nowhere. Very upset but otherwise ok. I never found out where she'd been but my then H's theory was that as she was such a lovely cat someone had tried to keep her but she had escaped.
You hear stories of cats going missing for long periods and then turning up. So I hope your Mum's cat comes home, but sooner rather than later.
