Shocking.
The police are not looking for anyone else in relation to to this so they seem confident they have the alleged perpetrators.

I mean they bailed a bunch of men they think were definitely being directed by Iran to perpetuate a terror attack. It sometimes feels like Britain’s institutions don’t actually like Britain very much.

Thoughts with the victim, this must be terrifying for them. It’s shameful.

It's mind boggling to me that they aren't locked up as they pose such a threat.

How awful for the survivor. And survivors everywhere.

You’d hope that all of these perps would be in prison - but no confidence they are.

It’s quite simple. Sufficient evidence to arrest is not sufficient evidence for CPS to charge. If there was a forensic evidence to be examined then they would have to be bailed pending the results.

They don’t give a shit about us. They will keep letting them in the country and out of prison because the government don’t care what they do to us. It doesn’t happen to them as they have guards.

Thank you for this.

A lot of people seem to think that the police have a lot more discretion when it comes to charging and bail than they actually do.

Are the suspects from overseas then?

I've had a look at the first two pages of links (except for the FB ones) that came up on Google, and none of them mention the nationality or ethnicity of the men arrested.

Perhaps you could let us have a link to the source of that info, please.

Absolutely

And however bonkers/unfair/annoying these things might seem, it protects us too. If you were in the wrong place at the wrong time would you be happy to be scooped up and dealt with the same as the perpetrators or would you prefer it be investigated first.

Exactly. Quick arrests often result in bail release if the charging decision relies on forensic evidence to come through. Or CCTV/ phone analysis to be completed.

The initial arrest allows for fingerprints and DNA samples to be taken.

RockyFraggles · 15/10/2026 11:25

They can't just keep the people in custody while they investigate to decide if they enough evidence to charge. Whether they think they have the right person or not, if they don't have enough evidence to charge within 24 hours (or bit longer with extensions) they have to be bailed. People can only be remanded into custody to await trial once they are charged.

NoisyBrickDog · 15/10/2026 13:44

The other thing with bail is the 24 hour time is continuous.

So, you have to allow time on their clock to re-interview them again when they answer bail. You have to be careful not to run their bail clock down after their initial arrest because you don't want them returning with only 2-3 hours on the clock - you wont have enough time to re-interview and go to CPS for a decision on charge.
