What's with all these OP's with a paragraph in bold type?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Here I will set the scene.

And here is a paragraph in bold confirming the scenario and positing my AIBU question.

Something I have noticed recently, but perhaps has been the norm for a while and I just haven't been paying attention!

YABU - Yes, I've noticed it too
YANBU - Nope, always been the way.

I sometimes do it if I want to quote part of a post

So the poster can see what I am replying to? Sometimes there is a lot of information that doesn't need to quoted so I find the quote button useless?

I assume they are posts that we're written with AI. Not necessarily that they're a fake post made by some bot, though I don't discount that possibility. But more likely that the OP used chatGPT to organise their thoughts into a post designed for mumsnet

It’s people using AI to write their posts.

OutOfTheOtherSide · 14/10/2026 19:47

AI!

TY78910 · 14/10/2026 20:01

Ive noticed when they paste the title at the start in bold too and then post underneath. Defo AI

It's to distinguish quoted material from poster's writing.

mynameiscalypso · 14/10/2026 20:51

I assume AI too. My ChatGPT puts random sentences in bold as a summary quite often.

What are they quoting, if they're the OP? And anyway, we have quote marks for that.

I always just assume it's AI and close the thread.

No, the type the OP is talking about have ‘key themes’ of the post highlighted in bold - like the companion book to a set text. I assume it’s another brilliant ChatGPT innovation… Hmm
