Totally fed up with this skin issue under eyes now, awaiting telepathway dermatology review pics attached

I have written on here before and been given some advice, but now things are swelling/flaring up more I thought it might be a good time to show this, as there were some who thought it was Blephitis, but it’s not and the optician said that too.

I am not sure why I get the swelling, I also think some things are part and parcel of age and hormones, the rest stress as been going through various things. And seems to be dermatitis/eczema.

Any similar experiences and advice very welcome

This is really affecting me now and my confidence etc.
I know in part the general appearance of my eyes will never be the same as years back, aging etc. Life is different now etc. But I do wonder if this will ever go and go back to how it was before.

This is both sides left and right

It might be allergies. I get a similar mild reaction when around an allergen. Have you tried antihistamine eye drops? I use Sodium Cromoglicate 2% eye drops on prescription 2x a day, every day.

I’m afraid I can’t see from the images what the problem is but do you have any way of affording a private appointment? I went back and forth with the GP so often, skin swabs, steroids, anti fungal around redness and swelling under my eye. I paid for a private appointment, she diagnosed me before my bum had hardly hit the seat! Mine was an allergy to nail polish.

Thankyou, yes I am thinking a cross between that and other things. No I have not tried those type of drops, I wonder if my doctor would prescribe them.

I realised that they might not look that bad where I have had to crop the picture, but it is bad, not really able to afford that at the moment, but I do appreciate what benefit that would possibly have, I wouldn’t know where to start to find someone to book in with.

I get allergies, I had an issue with my eye once after staying in a hotel, it was the bedding. Was the washing powder or fabric conditioner they used.

Any changes to your environment? Mine developed a lot and got far worse in menopause as above.

My main issue is perfume and perfumed products with air fresheners being the very worst. When young it was just make up because you put it on the skin and prolonged contact. It just all got much worse later in life,

MyAgileUser · Yesterday 10:34

That very much looks like allergies OP. Not sure about your age/stage in life but I have developed allergies as I got older and now, firmly in menopause, i cannot tolerate avo, mango, kiwi and pineapple (unless cooked), my mouth itches like crazy and my eyes look like that. Also any sunscreen that is not zinc oxide 😭
You need to identify The Thing. It may take a while. I would honestly recommend trying to figure out what causes it and avoiding that rather than take ant-histamines forever. Good luck.

Hi, I had similar with my eyes a couple of years ago. It was my shampoo ( in my case Head & Shoulders ). You've probably considered this but it is a process of elimination. I was blaming eye creams etc but realised eventually it was shampoo,

For many years I have had to be very careful with what skin care products I use because of the allergic reaction to my eyes. I went through a period before I discovered what the cause was where my right eyeball was exremely swollen and I got pain in the eye. My right eye is always the more problematic one.The optician had no idea why I was getting these symptoms until my face started also to get incredibly itchy when I used certain skin care products which were perfumed. I stopped using them because of my skin issue and my eye problems stopped as well which is how I realised what was causing the problem with them. I generally now stick to hyperallergenic products and watch out for any reactions if I try anything new

Probably already discussed; but do you perhaps sleep on your stomach op? When I started sleeping on my side (not as difficult as I expected), the under eye swelling dissapeared fairly quickly and didn't come back.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · Yesterday 11:36

Might sound strange but do you use wax melts?

PBS2023 · Yesterday 12:20

My son suffers exactly the same and it was allergies.

Apologies, I was not doubting you at all, just could not see from the image but I know how horrible it can be. I just googled private dermatologist and the name of the big town near me and rang to make an appointment. They saw me within three days and it was £200. I know this was a huge privilege to be able to afford to jump the wait to see a dermatologist on the NHS.

Can you start eliminating things to see if that might help allergies? I was advised to cut out nail polish, and makeup straight away and then go back to her if this did not help. I reintroduced makeup, although I did switch brands to one for sensitive skin and no flare up. I have noticed that if I use skin products with Vitamin C in I will get an immediate reaction as well.

Edited

I mean things have been the same in one way over a period of time now. But would then look better ish. But this is just alot now over these past few days, I know I might have used different products as well, so things might irritate or say with a face wash etc too. Maybe even shampoo. As i usually lean over the bath to do mine.

Yes i go for fragrance free whenever i can

i bought non bio detergent again, but i don’t think it was that anyway but thought it was worth a try, plus stopped with softner. I guess the non bio still has perfume in it maybe.

I don’t no, I can’t stand those. My neighbour used to burn it in the hallway a few years back, and I told them to stop as it is a communal area and a fire hazard!

Are you using any eye drops currently?

I shared I had similar problems on your last thread, I had an allergy to gel nail polish but symptoms kept returning.

My optician recently diagnosed dry eye, which may or may not be connected to the eczema/ dermatitis. However, I found that using the different types of Hycosan drops they recommended actually made the itching and soreness worse. After a bit of digging around and asking ChatGPT, I discovered that the citric acid used as a buffering solution in those drops can be problematic for sensitive eyes.

I switched to VisuXL drops two weeks ago and started using the Boots Dry Eye Night Gel every night and it has honestly made the world of difference! The swelling and itchiness stopped pretty much overnight, the constant watering stopped plus the wrinkles have started to fade. I’m actually surprised at how much younger I actually look without the swelling and sore skin, I’ve been so used to having wrinkly, red eyes!

I’ve had the issue for about a year and this has been the longest period of time I haven’t wanted to scratch my eyeballs out. Really hope you find the thing that works for you.

Hi I’m not no, I did use some briefly, that’s interesting that the two has completely different outcomes, and yes I have wondered about some of the ingredients they put in some of these drops.
The other ones you used sound very good i wouldn’t mind giving those a go!
Where did you get them from.
