Hello MN
I’m in a really difficult position- and I genuinely don’t know what to do. Holding back some of the details as outing.
Earlier this year, was made redundant & friend’s partner offered me a work opportunity ‘til I found something else’ - I am grateful.
He is my manager - the pay is low, the staff are lovely (but overwhelmed and underpaid) and as I approach month 4, I’m starting to see so many red flags…
Basically, some of my work isn’t being signed off as it’s supposed to be (by my manager) meaning that I can’t email documents over to the partners. When I asked for these to be signed off asap, I was told not to ask. This has left partners frustrated & me looking unprofessional. Other red flags relating to H&S, safeguarding and certain individuals being treated differently to others are also very apparent.
Basic processes/policies & processes are so vague/unclear. Many of the new staff members need training which just isn’t being given (me included)
I genuinely don’t think I can carry on here, my probation is 6 months so just before Christmas.
I am looking/applying for other jobs (just started last week) but I am so desperate to leave - it’s pretty awkward as my friend (whose partner is my boss) keeps asking how it’s going and I have to see my manager in social situations occasionally but he’s essentially quite a crap, unsupportive manager, and the organisation is just…. Chaotic.
There is very little psychological safety as some of the staff who’ve been there years seem unwilling to help or answer questions and my manager just shrugs or looks annoyed when I (of other newer staff) ask questions.
What would you do?
Stick around or just give notice & hope I can find another job asap… ? AIBU to give notice based on all of the above & hope for the best with the job search? It’s so ridiculous!
