That this irritates me a bit?

Me and my friend occasionally have each other round for tea. When she's having me, she always asks me to get at least one ingredient. Its always on the day too so I cant just get it along with my normal weekly shop. I dont want to go shopping today. Its not even a simple ingredient like milk. When i have her round I just make sure I buy the right ingredients.

Just say no, you've been to the shops and you are not going again. Tell her she can work round it.

Told her the shop didnt have any of the thing she asked for this time. I just don't get it, if I'm having someone round then I just buy the stuff thats needed to cook for them? Why would i ask them to bring their own ingredients?

How about you normalise each of you bringing desert? Is she always scatty though or do you think it could be that she wants or needs a financial contribution?

Doesnt need financial contribution, she's fine for money although fritters it away. I'm pretty hard up for money. I think she just forgets things and then can't be bothered to go to the shop herself!

I can't imagine being bothered by this. I think if it irritates that you much, you probably just aren't that fond of her.

Walkacrossthesand · Yesterday 18:12

@TheLastSilverSaint if every single time you go, she contacts you last minute to say ‘can you get some xxx’ (not ‘do you have some xxx you can bring’, it becomes a pattern and tiresome, no matter how much you like your friend.

@Autumnsunshine54 I’d say sorry, no, haven’t got time inclination to go to shop, and let her work around it. Once every now and then is ok - every time is ‘avin’ a larf ain’t you territory

You must be very easy going , I think most people would be annoyed by always having to do some shopping when invited over by a flakey friend when they make the effort to have all their ingredients in

“Sorry don’t have time” it is then.

Ah man that would wind me up!! I never ask people to get stuff for me because I know how annoying that is! Be direct but if you can't/ won't, then a passive aggressive option is to bow out of any visit each time she asks you to get something. Immediately after the request: "oh, you just reminded me, I forgot I need to do XYZ". And only keep to the plan if she doesn't ask you to get her something.

I assume she pays for the item you're buying??

I see you are dining with my mum so..... every single time. I think she just likes to put me out really or did before I stopped talking to her.
