If everyone started not using headphones in public, might it make the point?

I mean, if as soon as someone in a shared public space starts listening minus headphones to their mobile device entertainment, everyone else quietly listening with headphones unplugs them and does the same with the resultant cacophony meaning the selfish person can't hear their stuff either?

I get why you think this. It drives me insane when people don't use headphones!

There are some people who would be in agony from this (I'm not one, but I know some) and I doubt you'd get enough people to join in.

@seahorsessky I hear you (lol) I would feel cringe as well but if "everyone" did it it might work...

The people who you'd want to notice it largely won't notice and it'd just be far more annoying for everyone else.

@OonaStubbs Surely they'd notice if the effect was to impede hearing the thing they're listening to? Not that they give it any advance thought, but they rely on no one else creating the same noise level they are.

I thought the same on a particularly noisy Easyjet flight. If the cabin crew are OK with people using devices without headphones, where is the volume limit? Is there a volume limit? Who decides? I'm tempted to take a Bluetooth speaker next time and really crank it up.

FWIW I'll check in again tomorrow morning to see if any more responses, but thanks to all who've taken the time to comment 😊.
