To get rid of the wardrobes and use drawers instead.

Wardrobes are so inefficient. There is so much wasted space. I am thinking of having just one wardrobe in the utility room for my few dresses and nicer jackets. I think that everything else could be folded and stored in drawers (the Marie Kondo way).
Does anyone else do this and is it practical?
Also, If anyone has any recommendations for suitable (tall/huge) drawers then isld be really grateful.

I think drawers are a pain to use, they don’t actually hold much, hard to see what’s actually in them, clothes get caught, etc. etc. Could you get shelves put into your wardrobes ?

Have you looked at the IKEA pax system? We have 5 single units in our bedroom joined together and set up differently.

There is one double wide unit with wide drawers and a full width hanging rail for shirts etc, I have two single units with drawers in the bottom half and one has shelves in the top half and a hanging rail in the other half, then the last single unit is for full length dresses/coats/suits but with a couple of shelves above and below. The planner on the website is really useful.

Best of both worlds is the have shelves in your wardrobe and baskets on the shelves. Take basket out and put on bed while you get things in and out.

The curver plastic rattan baskets in the kind of A4 size are brilliant, 3 per shelf for a 100cm wardrobe.

Second this. Ikea pax changed my life, embarrassed as I am to admit it. The drawers are pretty roomy and deep. I have one set up with drawers at the bottom and hanging space at the top, which I use mostly for shorts etc (and the top of the drawers create great storage space for all my makeup and hair bits and jewellery). I have another set up with full hanging space for longer items and another with just drawers. So good!

Ps I will add that putting them together ourselves in a not that big room did create some hilarious jiggling mayhem though.

There are no wardrobes in my new house, possibly because the upstairs floors are very uneven (old cottage). I had built in throughout in my old place, so it’s a bit odd. I bought a double clothes rail for jackets/dresses/suits. There are huge shelves in the bedrooms, I have folded and put everything on those. Wardrobes become a dumping ground, I find, my DH’s weights/random items were at the bottom of one for years, bags and crap in another.

Ooh Thanks for the ideas, I've not seen the pax system , I'll have a look at that.

Depends what you wear. I did this for my kids before they needed stuff ironed (no disrespect to anyone who ironed sleepsuits and toddler clothes).

Agree but there's definitely room for wardrobe design innovation to make them work better.
