To think everyone struggles in life at least a bit?

Life can be fun and exciting. But it is also hard and stressful. Most of us are juggling a lot. Children, job, housework, cooking, relationships, family, friends, social life, etc. we all get stressed or overwhelmed at times.

So aibu to think everyone struggles with at least one aspect of their life? Whether that is keeping the house okay, or keeping up with friendships, or keeping in touch with extended family?

I'm not sure it's really an AIBU is it?

No one ever sailed entirely through life, singing to the little birds and woodland animals, and without a cloud in the sky. Not even Snow White.

Shit happens to everyone at some point.

Yes, but there's a myriad of other factors that influence people's ability to cope with these struggles.

Why do you ask OP, has someone told you otherwise?

There are struggles and struggles.

You’re broadly right that into every life a little rain must fall and few people go through it unscathed by pain or sadness.

But some people’s burdens are heavier than others.

Why do you ask?

Yes, but I do believe there are capital letters Struggles and then smaller struggles What you are describing sounds like small letter struggles which of course everyone goes through. Eventually of course everyone with have experienced grief etc but at different points in life it can feel (and be the case) that some people have more Struggles than others

Definitely! And I think it's an important thought to hold onto when the shit has just hit the fan. It stops some of the 'why me'. I try and remember other people have got through this stuff, it's just my turn now.

Everyone struggles but to different degrees. Some feel stressed and overwhelmed sometimes, some feel overwhelmed all the time. Some feel sad sometimes, some feel like they don't want to carry on with life anymore. Some have a messy house now and again, some can't ever get the home to reasonable state that isn't a hazard to health without help. Some struggle to keep up with friends, some can't keep friends or even make them.

Today I was talking to a woman whose mother and 4 siblings are living in Iran. That puts things into perspective.

Cocopogo · 11/10/2026 18:46

Sometimes things feel tougher than what they are, it’s all about perspective. I found the kids being younger and juggling hard but now I have empty nesting and parents passing away and I’d give anything to go back to those days

Bunnycat101 · 11/10/2026 18:51

People make assumptions and never fully know what is going on in someone’s life but there are definitely scales of struggles and I do think there are differential impacts of grief. Sometimes people make their own problems and sometimes people are dealt a rough hand.

I think 21st century thinking is often very unrealistic and very selfish. It really wasn’t very long ago when there was war, children regularly dying, poverty and ill health. We have become very spoilt and used to easy living thanks to the sacrifices of our grandparents and beyond.
Young people seem to know have an expectation of having what they want, when they want and don’t care about others around them. Personally I don’t think it’s sustainable in our society and something will have to give soon.
Entitlement and expectation of our own wants and needs is very much a modern mind set.

Constantrunner · 11/10/2026 19:14

I think some people expect too much from themselves and then get upset when they can't live up to perfection in every area of their life. So what your house needs decorating and the garden is a bit messy, and you are just getting by in your job? But your kids are happy and your marriage is good. You can't do everything and that is just human.
